Question USB-C hub question

I recently bought an asus vivobook s15, which has a usb-c port, and a dell usb-c monitor. I wanted to connect them via a cable but I found out my laptop doesn't support the usb-c alternate mode so I can't carry video, data and power.
Now, if I buy a usb-c hub will that work? or does it also require alternate mode on my laptop?

If the hub in question has a built in video adapter, then yes. But hubs like that typically cost more, and at that point you're effectively bypassing whatever GPU you have in your laptop and just using the external adapter for a display.
