So, I just put this new computer together and installed windows fresh, and after I installed SP2 I've been having some weird login issues. First off when i turn the computer on right after windows loads a login window pops up (not the normal user login screen) and I have to hit ok (since I put my password as blank). How do I change this so this doesnt pop up every time windows boots up? Another related thing that I noticed is that when I hit ctrl+alt+del a window with 6 different options pops up instead of just the task manager, how can i get this back to normal?

you're using the classic logon
go to start > control panel > user accounts
select "change the way users log on or logoff
make sure both checkboxes are checked
click on apply options
restart

How do I get it back to no login screen at all? Doing this I dont get the weird login screen but I still get one.

doesn't have that option, unless you get a third party application to do it

usually tho, if you have a blank password, and you're the only user account in the system (administrator & guest don't count cuz they're hidden), it should hit the welcome screen then log you in automatically without a prompt, so make sure other than u, administrator, and guest, there are no other user accounts present, if there is, you can't do anything about it...it might actually be a service pack 2 behavior

EDIT: from what i remember, TweakUI got overtaken by MS and it used to have an automatic logon feature, i don't know if it's still there, but give it a try: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Ahh well, don't you just love XP? Such a temperamental OS, lol, I went a whole year on the last install without ever seeing a login screen then it just randomly does this, grr.

It's never random... you must have done something to make this change. Usually, XP Pro does this when you join to a domain. My install of Pro at home doesn't do this, but my install of Pro at work does... the only difference is that my work comp is joined to a domain and my home one isn't.

But it will also happen if classic login is enabled, as FatTony said.

START button then select RUN

Type control userpasswords2 then click the OK button.

Select the account you wish to be the primary logon.

Uncheck Users must enter a username and password

APPLY then you'll have to confirm the password.
