Hi.
I'd like to know what is bottlenecking my system. I play mostly Fortnite at 1440p resolution and I'm getting way lower fps than I expected. Task manager shows CPU usage at most 40% and no single core is used even close to 100%. GPU usage is 40-55%. Temperatures are not a problem on either the GPU or the CPU.
Specs:
ryzen 5 3600
gtx 1070 ti
16gb 3600 ram
asus tuf x570 mobo
550 psu

Thanks for any help.

There is always a limiting factor.
Usually cpu or gpu.
And not always at the same time.
Fortnite can only usefully use two cores.

Windows will distribute load across available threads, so with 12 threads, you can't really tell how cpu limited you might be.

I do not know what your performance expectations are, nor what they should be.

But, you could try some experiments.

Run the cpu-z bench test and look at the single thread performance rating.
It should be about 515::

Much different, look into it.

Reduce your resolution and quality settings.
That will make the gpu loaf.
If your performance remains...

If your performance remains the same, you are likely cpu limited.
If performance improves much, look into a stronger graphics card.

Thanks for your reply! This helped a lot.
I got a cpu-z single thread result of 510.
I tried reducing resolution and I only got about a 10-15 fps average increase going from 1440p high to 1080p medium.
So I guess I'm cpu limited in this situation. Not that this gpu could do too much more anyway so probably will upgrade them both.

You might want to run the UBM that was asked for above.
Then we can take a peek.

I know this is not a very recent ubm run but nothing has changed from this time and I'm not home atm.
Please ignore all the disks as they are not apart of the problem and are no longer installed in the system.
I'm currently running off of a 1000GB pcie 4.0 ssd.
Hope this helps.

The R5-3600 was/is no gaming powerhouse at any resolution(especially if running stock clock speeds at sub-3.9 GHz all-core or so) , certainly will not be when paired with a 5-6 year old mid-range GPU at 1440P...(assuming you are not limited by any sort of 100 Hz v-sync/refresh issues...)

I Understand but I still expect there to be a bigger difference when I changed from an FX 8320

They were asked to post something current but that seems to be too much work.
I think I got the answer already. Nothing seemed to be wrong so I may just need to upgrage the components. Thanks for the replies.

This does still leave me wondering why upgrading from an FX8320 only gave so little performance gains.

I'd like to ask one more thing. Why did the FX processor get 100% utilized by fortnite even though it has more cores?

Is about Ryzen, haven't seen a game which truly can take uage of all cores while the cpu (drivers?) still wants to devide on all cores. Something like Cinebench is created to use al cores and all go to max. Think the only ones i have seen go that high are the true quad cores like the older 1200/1300x, maybe the 3300 gets close.

tried playing with the game settings?
