Hello, so I bought my PC a few years ago when the 1070 came out and I still think its a good GPU although my CPU is kinda weak now so I wanted to upgrade it.

I want something more powerful now cus my CPU rn is i5 6600k so which ones do you guys recommend? I'm kinda interested in this new one i7 10700k, or perhaps non K since I don't know if I'll overclock yet!

(ps: I'm also worried about bottleneck thats why I'm asking)

Thanks in advance :)

3080 reviews I have read say it is a wonderful card suited for 4k gaming where the graphics card is the limiting factor.
Not so much for 1440P gaming or 1080P.

On a certain level, all of the 10th gen intel processors perform the same.
They all can reach about 5.0 in turbo or via overclocking.
The i9 top dog might reach 5.3

Your i5-6600K has 4 threads and a passmark rating of 6287. That is when all 4 threads are fully occupied.
The single thread rating is 2335.
By comparison, the i5-10600K has 12 threads and a rating of 14685/2934.
A huge increase in capability.

I7-10700K is 16 threads and 19664/3000.

Best possible is a i9-10900K with 20 threads and a rating of 24163/3178.

Really, there is no future proofing.
Buy what you need now...

For this you would need new MB with 1200-socket.

For your current MB 8700K would be possible.

Sadly no, it wont, the only thing OP can do as an upgrade is get a i7 6700/6700K/7700/7700K, as long as the BIOS is uptodate to support those chips and OP can find them at a nice price (which is usually very hard).

Or buy a new mobo, and RAM (DDR4 3200) to upgrade to the 10700K.

I7-10700K is about as good as it gets for gaming.
Actually, if you are on a budget, look at the i5-10600K
Here is a review:
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i5-10600k-cpu-review/5
The main difference is in the number of threads you get. 12 for I5, 16 for I7, 20 for I9.
Few games can make effective use of more than 4-6 threads.
multiplayer is usually one of them.
Even if you do not plan on overclocking, the K processors will naturally turbo up higher than the non K equivalent. And, since overclocking is so easy, it is nice to have that option by using a Z490 based motherboard.

The thing is that I want to get a RTX 3080 in the future but not now, for now I only can afford a good CPU plus the mobo for it and keep my 1070 for at least 1 more year you know? so I'd like to get the best CPU possible and then get the 3080
Thank you for your opinion!

He should get the 8700k and OC her to 5Ghz and then it performs on par with a 9700k 9900k and 10700k. Update your BIOS then grab a 8700k my friend. Also what resolution do you play at if 1080p then yes your CPU is a bottleneck. If you play at 1440p there is still a bottleneck but not as much. Honestly just grab a new system when your ready if you can't do a drop in place 8700k upgrade and what not.🤷‍♂️💯🙏🙈✝

Buy what you need now and for the next year or two.
Past that, there will be newer gen parts with better price/performance.
And... Who knows what your needs might be then.

I'm gonna think about it, perhaps maybe I just wait a couple more months and get everything at the same time, we'll see!

I'll check the price of it, if it's cheaper I'll think about it, not bad idea too, it would be a great deal if it's decently cheaper since the new gen is out.

Thanks for your opinion!

Not gonna lie if I were you and I were gonna get a new motherboard I'd go for AMD as they have better performance than intel for less.

I was thinking about the Ryzen 3900X but then I saw its similar price as i7-10700K in my country so I thought going with intel
The 3900X has barely less single core performance, maybe around 7% less. And asides from that it crushes the i710700K in every other aspect pretty much. I honestly think It's a great cpu to pair with a 3080, as Beefy GPU = Beefy CPU at least in gaming :)
