i7 920 @ 4.2GHz: 7.7
6GB Crucial DDR3 1600: 7.8
Sapphire 4850 x2 (Stock/OC): 7.3/7.4
2 Intel X25-V SSD's RAID 0: 7.9

It's ridiculous that an i7 @ anything above 4GHz with hyper-threading can only get to 7.7. Guess you gotta go drop $1k on a golftown to get 7.9.

Wow I'm really suprised you can't get 7.9 with your I7 at 4.2ghz.
I was able to achieve it with my I7 rather easily.
Keep us updated with your scores I'm interested to see what you can do with it.
I'm really quite sure these scores are based on abstract hardware info.

Hmm, IDK, I can't either and I had mine running @ 4.45GHz when I was benching!

So I think 7.9 on the WEI with an i7 is suspect!

Yea, I had my 920 at 4.5 and it did a 7.8.

Normal clock is 4.2ghz and it's done a 7.7 4x in a row.

Anyone who is saying they got 7.9 with an i7 below 4.2+ ghz plus isn't being honest (hexicore withstanding perhaps)

My setup is getting these scores, which i think is weird that my CPU isn't at 7.9 but is still incredibly fast!

WEI = CPU: Core i7 920@ 4.4GHz, 1.357(V) 7.8
RAM: Kingston HyperX ddr3 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24 12GB 7.9
GPUs: (3x) XFX Radeon HD 5850 Black Editions @ 1000MHz GPU clock and 1410MHz Ram Clock 7.9
GPUs<2>: " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " 7.9
Hard Disk: (3x) OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD's In RAID 0 - Read: 235MB/s Write: 135MB/s Rating: 7.6

Using Crystal Disk mark, I honestly don't know what it takes to get a 7.9 as My Read rates with these drives in RAID 0, are always about 401MBytes/sec and my Write speeds are on average at 228MBytes/sec. Either way I don't really care what windows says because it is in fact blazing fast!

Another funny thing is that my Other rig which is the exact same except that the GPUs are (2x) two Sapphire Radeon HD 5970's and the rating was at 7.8, lol, and what was awesome is that the cpu: (i7 980x 6-core, 12thread, oc to 4.2GHz) got a very fast assessment (about 8 seconds) of 7.9! I still am trying to find out why the 5970's are scoring lower as they are both on full 16x pci-express lanes as are the 5850's on true triple 16x( Asus p6t6 WS Revolution) and I even overclocked the 5970's to the specs of the 5870.....I overclocked past a 5870 a bit ( to about 880 GPU, 1220 Ram) and still got a 7.8!!!! :pt1cable: Anyways, sorry for the long post, let me know if anyone has a password of which needs to be cracked or anything for some network eqipment, this is how i task the 980x i7 as my friend has some old network server cards of some sort and I get him passwords all the time. Peace out peeps! Just wanted to show what SSD's do! And how weird it is that 3 5850's are outperforming even in games the 2 5970's <weird>

My score's 5.9, as listed below: I'm here to find out how you guys get higher scores, so thanks for all the info in your posts! :hello:

Component Details Subscore Base score
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 7.5
Memory (RAM) 12.0 GB 7.5
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series 6.0
Gaming graphics 3835 MB Total available graphics memory 6.0
Primary hard disk 679GB Free (931GB Total) 5.9

Windows 7 Ultimate

System

Manufacturer OEM
Model OEM
Total amount of system memory 12.0 GB RAM
System type 64-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 4

So, I score only a lousy 5.9 with Core i7 950 and 12GB Corsair 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and a coupla 4890 cards Crossfired and with 2x 1TB hdds. I see computers here with Core i7 920 with half the RAM scoring much better than 5.9.

I'm a bit surprised that the 4890 cards (x2) only gave me a score of 6, will have to work on that. But now my question is, will it be that SSD will be the answer to the lousy 5.9?

... and on just lookig at the very last post above, I think I've found the answer!

It's been stated many times throughout this thread... no matter how good your mechanical hard drive(s) is/are... there is an artificial cap of 5.9. I don't know why people are so obsesed with Windows bungholio marks all of a sudden... but they mean very little in terms of real-world performance.

So I paid the extra bucks for the SSD and it's my lowest score? Any info on why and what next would be appreciated...thanks.

I was suprised how high the 9800GX2 video card got because I am sure my 280 GTX came in lower than this. When I get chance I will test again with the 280 GTX installed.

I had a pair of Maxtor 15K RPM SAS drives in RAID 0 configuration that scored a 6.5. SAS bandwidth is twice that of SATA II. These are among the fastest conventional hard drives in the world though. Maybe SATA III will be able to break the 5.9 barrier too?

That being said, I was able to get to 7.9 with just two Intel 160GB 34nm SSD drives in RAID 0 using integrated ICH10R. I didn't try it with just one drive though - for all I know it may take just one Intel 160GB 34nm SSD to get there. Not all SSDs are created equal either. It took *four* Patriot V3 256 GB SSD drives in RAID 0 to do the same thing.

I finally took my RAID off the ICH10R and onto an Areca 1231 card with 4 GB read-ahead buffer. My transfer rates are better than 2 GB per second and seek time of 0.1 ms. That's about 30 times the transfer rate and 300 times faster than the seek times of your typical "5.9er". I process a lot of huge logic analyzer traces with this machine, so I need fast memory, fast CPU, and fast hard drives. I can't add more drives to make it any faster though. I've reached the bandwidth limit of PCI-E x8. I think this should rate about an 11 on the WEI rating system. :D

My current rating using the latest retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate with all patches up to date:

WEI.jpg

The perfect score still eludes me! No matter what I do, I can't get my CPU past 7.8. I think you must have at least 8 cores or something! I think it has something to do with MS patches changing the WEI system. I was able to easily get to 7.9 with earlier versions of Windows 7 with my now lowly i7 965EE. With other benchmarks, like 3DMark, PCMark and Passmark, my overclocked i7-980X scores among the very highest rated CPUs.

System specs:

* ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel MB
* Intel Core i7-980X 3.33GHz 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop CPU @ 4.61 GHz
* DDR3 12 GB (3 x 4GB) 2000 MHz Tri-Channel Kingston HyperX Memory
* Areca ARC-1231ml PCI-Express x8 SATA / SAS Controller Card with 4GB DDR2 533 MHz Buffer
* 9 x 160 GB 34nm Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA Solid State Drives in RAID6 Configuration
* 2 x Nvidia GTX295 1536MB DDR5 in Quad-SLI Configuration
* 2 x Samsung 305T Dual Link DVI 30 inch monitors with 6ms response time
* Killer Xeno Pro Network Card with 400 MHz NPU and 128 MB DDR2 Buffer
* Antec 1000 Watt PSU
* LG WH08 8x Blu-Ray Burner
* Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

WUT!? 9xSSD HDD. wow... overkill and overload at the same time :lol:

There are circumstances under which mechanical drives will score higher... your higher spindle speeds combined with the hardware RAID controller certainly helps. Disabling the drive's cache can also result in a higher score; for some reason MS decided that a drive that uses it's cache for read/write operations rather than commit them to the drive right away deserves to be capped. I bought drives with 32MB of cache because I wanted higher performance... but MS is telling me I get lower performance.

*Shrug*

Personally, I don't care if the hard drive uses it's cache to improve performance... after all, that's what it's there for. As long as I get good performance, Windows bungholio marks are meaningless.

Asus P7P55M, Intel i7-860, 4 GB Supertalent Dual-Channel DDR3 1333 MHz, ATI Radeon x1950, 2 x WD Velociraptor in RAID 0 on ICH10R, Windows 7 Ultimate retail version, all patches up to date (CPU overclocked to 3.3 GHz)

p7p55m%281%29.jpg

Asus P7H55M-PRO, Intel Pentium Dual Core G6950, 4 GB Supertalent Dual-Channel DDR3 1333 MHz, Integrated Intel GMA4 on processor die, Fujitsu 160 GB Laptop drive, Windows 7 Ultimate retail version, all patches up to date (CPU at stock 2.8 GHz speed).

pentiumg6950%281%29.jpg

Edit: I sold the Asus P6T Deluxe system recently to a friend to help pay for my new Asus Rampage III Extreme machine. Since installing the retail version of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate on that same system and overclocking to 4.2 GHz, he tells me that he can't get past 7.7 on the WEI rating. Are people here claiming to get past 7.7 on their core i7 machines using Windows 7 beta or Windows 7 retail? I'd really like to know that! I think it rather odd that other than myself, everyone who has cliamed to get 7.9 on thier CPU rating aren't posting screenshots.
