Why does my 54g wireless laptop connect to some coffee shop and motels wireless

I have a laptop computer with a 54g wireless LAN. I am unable to connect to certain coffee shop, motels and friends wireless networks. Some places I can connect with no problem and others show the wireless network is available but it will not let me connect even if I put in the password. Is there some new technology out for the newer wireless networks that isn't compatible with the 54g?

Yes it's called wireless N but it should be backwards compatable. What you can try is when you get to one of those spots whereit won't connect diable the wireless adaptor and then enable it , not saying it's a cure for your issue but it's something to try.
You could get a usb wirelkess N adaptor to use for the laptop. Again that may not be a cure but it is something to try.

How old is your laptop? Some older models can connect to networks with WEP or WPA security but can't handle the more recent and more secure WPA2.
