Why my GPU using PCI-E x4 instead x16 ?

The first time I installing the GPU to the motherboard it still reads PCI-E x16, but after a month of using my GPU it only reads using PCI-E x4, for a month I never removed the GPU, it is still in the same state as the first time i installed it.

Any Solution ?

CPU : Intel i3-10105
Motherboard : MSI B560M-A Pro
GPU : MSI GTX 1660 Super Ventus OC
RAM : 2x8GB (16GB) PNY XLR8 PC 21300 DDR4 Base 2666Mhz (XMP ON 3200Mhz)
SSD : 256GB PNY SSD M.2 NVME CS1031
Power Supply : 500w Antec VP Series 500W -VP500P V2- 80 plus

How old is the PSU in your build? Which slot on the motherboard are you populating the GPU with? As for your motherboard, what BIOS version are you currently on for said motherboard?

If the card was initially showing up as using 16 lanes, then dropped to 4, and you didn't do anything major between them like update the BIOS or something, you may need to reseat the card.

Under a load? PCIe will drop down to conserve power.

Need to nitpick.

Cards don't drop lanes unless the lanes are, from the computer's point of view, disconnected. And as far as I know PCIE doesn't shuffle lane counts around: you get what you get at the start.

So I don't see this as a power saving feature or an issue with the PSU.

Some motherboard vendors allow you to trade lanes for expanding functionality. For example, I can have 4 SSD drives on my B450 motherboard. But if I decide to use the m.2 port, I am limited to 2 SSD + 1 m.2 drive. Each of these use a PCIe lane. My Z77 chipset did a similar thing. I could run x8 in the second to last slot, or I could run x4 and x1 with a functional last slot.

If your graphics card isn't in the first slot, closest to the CPU, move it there. If you are in the first slot, reseat the card.

How old is the PSU in your build? Which slot on the motherboard are you populating the GPU with? As for your motherboard, what BIOS version are you currently on for said motherboard?

For the power supply and other components, it's still less than a year old.

My motherboard only has a pci-e x16 near m.2 ssd and I'm using that slot.

And my bios version is still the same as when I bought it.

i'm using the first slot because my motherboard only has one pci-e x16 slot
it's hard to reseat the gpu because there's no space to push the thing (i don't know the name), i need to dissamble all parts to reseat it

Even if I run the game at maximum settings, the PCI-E Lane remains unchanged, still at x4.

for a month I never removed the GPU, it is still in the same state as the first time i installed it.

PC covered in dust and spiderwebs

anyway you will need to reseat your GPU, no other options there, lanes are disabled as there is poor contact

Update : Fixed

I don't know why, but when I changed the PCI-E power cable, the problem was fixed. but i got the problem again when i slid the power cable from the motherboard.
