[SOLVED] Wifi works correctly but Ethernet will not.

Hello Everyone,
I have a basic knowledge on computers so I have run into a problem. I just moved into an apartment and had wifi installed, it works perfectly. But, when I try to attach an ethernet to the router and my PC. I can't use Spotify, steam, etc. Though, sometimes I can search something on the internet. I went through some guides online and nothing seems to be doing the trick. I was hoping I would be able to get some help through here! Please let me know what you would like me to provide to help answer this and I will try my hardest to keep up!

When you attached the Ethernet (wired) cable did you disable the wireless adapter?

For my router, it is the generic Xfinity router they set me up with. I am not sure where to find that information. On my desktop I have a wireless reciever plugged in via USB and that is what I am using for wifi right now. There isnt built in wifi on this machine.

Windows isn't smart enough to know what connection to use when it has 2 ethernet connections. Disconnect the wireless one and just use the wired one and it should be fine.

I did try that and that's when my spotify/steam/discord will stop working. I really am not sure what the problem is.

Give it a minute or two. Reboot if you don't want to wait.

I did as you instructed and no luck. For some reason it shows up that there is an ethernet connected but it will not actually work...

do you know if the wired ethernet is getting an ip address?

I cannot tell. All I know is when I hover over the ethernet connection it says unidentified network

Open a command prompt and run ipconfig /all. See if the wired card has an IP address listed.

I just figured this out. For some reason the DHCP was turned off? Not sure what that means. But, it works now!
