[SOLVED] Will an i5 6600k bottleneck a new rtx 3000 series

Hi, i am planing on getting an RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 but i don't know if my CPU will cause a bottleneck. i have an i5 6600k. Thanks for your help

3080 is really good gpu with the specs but with your mointor and playing on 1080P would 3080 be to much unless your planning on doing upgrades maybe try 3070?

At 60Hz your target FPS is 60. At 1080p I expect the 3070 is overkill for this and maybe over the top for 1080 144+Hz. However we need to see reviews.

There are a few games already that struggle to average 60fps with 4 core/thread i5’s. In these games it doesn’t matter what gpu you use you will have issues. For all other games the cpu is still good. We really need to see reviews and there is no date that I know of for a 3060.

For 1080p gaming and a 6600k I suggest the 2060 and you will get your 60fps with no dips. A 3070 is a 2k resolution card and your throwing away money. You really don't need to upgarde CPU just grab a 2060 and 1080p @ 60fps is a reality without any dips and what not. 🖐👶🤷‍♀️💯

I have an i7-6700 and GTX 1080 FE and I'm probably going to go with the 3060 Ti, maybe the 3070. I think the 6700 is not going to be enough CPU for a 3080 or 3090.

Although what resolution and refresh rate you play at does dictate how powerful of a processor you need, some games are more CPU intensive than others. Irregardless, the following is generally accepted wisdom with CPUs these days:

Your 6600k is a 4 core / 4 thread CPU.

4 core / 8 thread CPUs are considered the baseline for modern PC gaming. However, there are more than a few modern games in which they are no longer enough and will bottleneck you irregardless of resolution or frame rate.

6 Core / 12 thread CPUs are starting to become the new baseline as games get more computationally expensive.

8 core / 16 thread CPUs are outside many peoples budget, but they are starting to become necessary in order to play very CPU intensive games such as Microsoft Flight Simulator or Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

Thus, I would recommend that you get a new CPU because your current CPU will probably hold you back in many modern games irregardless of which GPU you are using. You'd probably be best served by a Ryzen 3600 (6 cores / 12 threads) and a decent B-series motherboard.

I have the 6600k OC to 4.5Ghz paired with the 3060Ti and was wondering if to get a new CPU as well.
As I'm using 1151 chipset upgrading to the 10th gen or to AMD CPU will require a new mobo as well.

I'm getting my 75-120fps in COD:MF and a stable Cyberpunk experiance on a 2K monitor so I'm good for now.

I guess I'll do some further upgrade to cpu/mobo/memory in a year or so to a newer generation of hardware. For now as it seems most games will not suffer from a serious bottleneck.
