CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 630 (Quad) ~2.8GHz
RAM: 8GB GDDR3
MOBO: MSI MS-7623 (I think...)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT
*EDIT: PSU: Corsair HX850 850 watt*

So, my question is: Will my CPU bottleneck the new graphics card I am about to purchase?
it is an Nvidia GTX 660 Ti 2GB GDDR5.

Thanks!!!

the 660ti won't bottleneck the cpu but the cpu will limit the 660ti in some games.

get a good heatsink and overclock the cpu past 3.4ghz to help

Hmmmm how about just an Nvidia GTX 660?
kinda strapped for cash and only have enough for a new GPU which is mainly what i need since mine is on the fritz!
Thanks for the replies!

gpu wont bottle neck the cpu. the cpu will bottleneck the gpu. right now the 9800gt is still a good card. id suggest getting a platform upgrade to the (whatever the new amd one is called) or ivy bridge(i5 of course) since processing power is important as well as gpu power.

the 660 is a good bargain for ~$220. still, i suggest overclocking that cpu.

Ah i see.
Right now im "Trying" to play recent games like Natural Selection 2
and with everything at LOW settings and overclocking my 9800GT i still get about 15-25 FPS on average... Is this really due to my CPU or a little of both or mainly the GPU?

and another question if i may. I am Extremely new to OC a CPU. I can't seem to figure it out for the life of me on my BIOs i have no clue where to go and what to increase. If there is a good guide or some kind of advice itd be much appreciated!!

anything more than a gtx650 will be bottlenecked by that cpu in most games. I would suggest upgrading cpu and gpu at the same time. Find out what if your motherboard supports phenom II x4 or fx 4300 chips. You should be able to pick up one of those cpu's for $100-120 and pair it with a gtx650ti.

Will the 660 still bottleneck after I OC my cpu?
I can get it to 3.X (right now 3.1 but I just bought a new heat sync to keep temps down for further OC)

The processor will be fine for a GTX 660, it will not be ideal by any means but it will handle most games out there just fine. If you want to go 660 Ti or higher, you should get yourself an i5 or an FX 83xx.

So I bought the gtx 660 ti.
Im at the dilemma of either getting the AMD Phenom Black Edition 3.4ghz or should upgrade my MOBO to an AM3+ socket and get the FX series cpu?

Yeah I figured so. Money is rather tight so I was seriously consider the BE. But I know for the long haul itd be a much smarter choice to get the new MOBO/CPU.
What about OC the BE to ~4.0Ghz?
Still iffy?
I have a new heat sync/fan on the way to help with the OC.

Yeah I think I may be gettin a new BE. Just simply because of affordability.
~$100 which is a great price.
I would get something slightly better but again my MOBO supports AM3
So I think im running out of options unless I snag an AM3+.

the redbull made me do it! :bounce:

honestly i may like intel but i do want to see you get the best you can . . whatever the platform.

yeah I do like Intel a lot.
just a little pricey for me!
I work a rather crappy job $9/hr 20-30 hrs a week :/
But hey its a job.
So on the AMD side of things, what MOBO and CPU would you recommend for ~$200 ish?
My MOBO is an oldster and it really is about time to get one with the AM3+ socket since that pretty much what AMD went to.
Like i mentioned earlier i would love something to pair well with the GTX660 ti!
Thanks a million for everyone's inputs!!!

sweet i was looking at that MOBO earlier.
It just gets a bit overwhelming for me cuz im rather new to the computer building and what not.
Thank you very much i do believe i'll go this route!
i already bought the heatsink and its set to arrive by 1/5 😀
Thanks a million looniam you've been so much help!
