NewEgg wants $297 for the X2-3800 at 2GHz...
The Conroe E6300 should sell for around $250 and is at 1.87GHz...
But the Conroe uses 4 IPC verses 3 IPC for the X2...
Also, the Conroe is newer tech, faster, cooler, cheaper and consumes less electricity...

The x975 supports crossfire (if you are lucky and find the bios or the proper board mods) never the less a lot of headaches to make them work properly. The only motherboard that is officially supporting conroe is the new p965 chipset. But Unfortunately the board is not SLI or crossfire ready.

And how many people use crossfire and SLI?

The AM2 mobo is SLI ready (for gamers) and upgradable to K8L, which is due by Nov./Dec 06(4 rev G 65nm CPU's this year ) 1stQ 07 K8L will be released in full and as promised will be much better performer than K8.

You're so full of sh!t. Revision G ships in december provided theres no delays and is released next year and K8L is due out mid next year at the earliest.

Conroe 1.86 Ghz runs at 1.86 Ghz obviously
X2 3800+ runs at 1.8 Ghz


Since Conroe runs 600 mhz faster it is obviously faster,....just like how a P4 2Ghz is also faster. lol

That's true, but consider the price of a Conroe motherboard vs. a 939 or AM2 board. Sure the CPU itself is priced the same or better, but when your motherboard is $200+ the small savings on the CPU is no longer relevant.

You are forgeting that intel and nvidia will both be releasing motherboards for conroe, and im sure prices for conroe compatable mobos with go way down with that. Besides, you cant buy a conroe today, so it wouldnt realy matter for those buying a conroe just yet.

I will buy AMD. 3800 x2 is just a fine processor and it can overclock very well. I'll try and get the Opty165 but where I live I think it's gonna be a problem.
I already have a 939 rig with some DDR1-500 memory that on benchmarks performs even better that DDR2-667.
