[SOLVED] Windows 11 on Gigabyte b35m with CSM Enabled

I was trying to get the insider build for Windows 11, when PC Health Check told me my PC (Gigabyte b365m ds3, 16gb RAM, external nVidia graphics) is not qualified for an upgrade. Found my PC/BIOS is confirming to all requirements including TPM except Secure Boot.

When I tried to change BIOS values by disabling CSM and enabling secure boot, I found that my computer has stopped working and the boot gave 5 continuous beeps on every start.. After a few tries had to Fuse the CMOS Jumpers to clear CMOS and return to default state. After proper boot, I realized my bootable SSD with existing Windows 10 is MBR based and that could have caused BIOS level failure with secure boot..

What is the way out to handle this, and ensure that disabling CSM and enabling Secure Boot doesnt lead to a complete breakdown again..

Thanks and Best Regards,
Pavan

If its a spare PC, you clean install the insider build and it should set up PC is secure boot/GPT without need to mess around with converting the install.

You shouldn't be running insiders or win 11 on main PC as its full of bugs still

You can convert your SSD from MBR to GPT using tools already built into Windows 10.

Thanks a lot .. Two things... It wasn't Windows but BIOS that failed .. I didn't reach even MEM Count stage with Display gone and 5 beeps..

1) I want to avoid fusing of jumper again for CMOS clear hence asking here. .what if my other HJDDs are not GPT, do I need to convert all bootable disks to GPT or a few with MBR (not primary boot) can stay.. Also Can I reset my Bios back to CMS enabled without secure boot after Win11 installation? or that change is forever ?

2) I did try to convert with mbr2gpt it returned back with error on ReAgent.xml

Yes you can mix GPT disks with MBR disks. As for any questions about what is needed to run Windows 11, you should just wait. Windows 11 has only been released to insiders for testing a few days ago and Microsoft has not been clear on what exactly will be required to run Windows 11.
