Hi there, I recently built a new computer and it seems with my new build my ethernet cable isn’t being detected at all. The onboard wifi works.
For some details.
OS:Windows 11
Cpu: 12900ks
Mobo: MSI mpg z690 carbon wifi
GPU: 3090

I’ve tried uninstalling and re installing drivers. Updating bios, but nothing seems to work. Help would be immensely appreciated.

Op here. I have tried three cables. Cat5e and 6e. None of them get registered. The light blinks on my mobo so I know it’s connected but for whatever reason it’s just not registering on my network devices. I’ll take some screen shots and apply them to the thread soon.

Ok, so I installed the latest drivers off the usb, then the mai update center. Still didn’t work. Until I went to speed and diplex and set it to 10mbps full duplex. Then it finally registered my lan cable. However I am only getting 9Mbps down. And 9Mbps up. I have gig fiber so I know I should be getting a lot lot more.

Also to note it will not register my lan cable at any other speeds under speed and duplex.

Two network adapters are enabled. One wireless, one wired.

Only one network adapter either wireless or wired should be enabled - not both at the same time.
Diabled wifi.
set speed and duplex to auto negotiate and it won’t register my ethernet cable.
When I set it to 10mbps it will.
no change still after disabling wifi.
I think I might just end up using wifi. This is seeming rather hopeless. I really shouldn’t have installed windows 11. Lmao.

Just to be sure:

You disabled WiFi and enabled Wired - correct?

Make and model Router (or Modem/Router if combined)?

When the new computer is connected to one of the router's LAN ports does that LAN port LED indicate a connection and speed?

On the motherboard's LAN port: what LEDs do you see and what color do the LED's appear to be? Any flickering?

Disable IPv6.

Noted that you have tried three different Ethernet cables and at least one cable works but only at 10 Mbps - correct.

What is printed on the cables? Especially the cable that works?

Cable source(s)?

Disable ipv6 (on both adapters) and reboot your pc.

How is pc connected to router? Is it a direct connection with a single cable?
Or several cables (cable to wall socket, wall socket to switch, switch to router) ? Or via powerline adapter?

Try with single cable instead.

So I was looking other places. This seems to be a common problem with z690 motherboards. And they suggested buying a usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter. And sure enough. No hassle and it works immediately. So it’s without a doubt a motherboard problem and hopefully a driver down the line ends up fixing it but for now I have a solution. Thank you to everyone in the thread.

you might run regedit to configure windows connection manager service.
go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WcmSvc\Local
add fMinimizeConnections as dword with a value of 0

I think windows is set to use the fastest connection and disable the others. it used to be that ethernet was the fastest and wireless would be disabled. I am guessing the wireless might be faster and the ethernet gets disconnected. This key will let both be active at the same time. just a guess as to the problem cause
note: value of key was changed in
Windows 10, version 1809, build 17763.404 and later

old rules you would only get one network path to the internet by default.
