Use linux bro... It cost u nothing.(except for the hardware)

this article really amuse me...

This article made me laugh...

This. One of the first things you learn in an introductory statistics course is that a positive correlation (or, as it is even more vaguely quoted in this article, lack of a negative correlation) doesn't by any means signify cause and effect.

[citation][nom]cookoy[/nom]windows launch coinciding near holiday seasons when people tend to buy things?[/citation]
Again, this. It isn't "New Windows OS is released, demand for Mac increases," it's "Hey, it's Christmas time, so demand for EVERYTHING increases."

Ultimately, this article is a waste. I would like the time I spent reading it back please. kthxbye.

Doc70, definitely. I mean it happens when one staff writer torches $2000 on a low end laptop with an illuminated apple logo on the back.

But anyway I'm finding that massive amounts of people like windows 7 and i don't hear anyone really touting snow leopard. Plus that o/s is getting bad press lately. The negatives about win7 are just a bunch of fluff, nothing to even speak of. And from my experience with windows 7 I had doubts when i installed it but soon after, they updated everything even for my old hardware on live updates. I am happy with it. Happier than with Vista but Vista worked fine for me as well. I just hadn't done much with Vista though. Not nearly as much as I've done on Windows 7. Great o/s. I think it is time for people to stop being negative about things and move on from here.

[citation][nom]adillhoff[/nom]The release of Windows 7 definitely makes me want to overpay on mediocre hardware.[/citation]
Well its either that or overpay on mediocre software.

If the only way I could run a PC was to have windows on it. I'd use a Mac too.

Linux FTW!

Did anyone actually Look at the graphs they were presenting? The only Windows release that saw a spike by any measurement was the release of Windows 2000. Why the hell has a business/server OS even being compared in that graph of desktop OS!?

Also, way to bias a pretty netural article and lie in the title. The original article clearly shows a new Windows OS doesn't affect mac sales negatively and it sure as hell doesn't show it spuring sales.

The only Windows release I can think of where Mac sales increased is Vista.... sooo... I guess if you make that you're one point of reference...

I doubt Windows 7 will spur Mac demand. But I also doubt it will slow it down.

Windows PCs are great. Apple makes great products too. No one gets mad at a Lexus luxury car for costing more and being slower than a tricked out Subaru WRX. Sure it costs more, but each has its own benefits. Let consumers pick what they want... that is the beauty of capitalism.

WINDOWS 7 RELEASED - TURKEY SALES BOOMING
Microsoft fails once again to deliver the fully butter-basted Thanksgiving experience. Industry experts note significantly that there is an amazing lack of negative correlation with Mac Sales. Jobs quoted as saying, "Our customers have always appreciated the little extras they get with their new Mac - like butter basting to help ease the transition."

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]registry hell and dosor unix based and a terminal? that was why I went with a mac. terminal >>>>> dos.[/citation]

Oh ye of little knowledge. Vista has a Unix based Kernal. It just uses a registry which has a main one and one per user so that any effects to one persons registry does not affect the whole machine and everyone else. Also, DOS has not been present in Windows since Vista. It was there in XP but was not as important as in 98.

Windows 7 will be the same. Unix based core, highly optimized and DOS still does not exist. Sure you can still bring up a command prompt and do some tasks in it but overall you cannot boot to DOS anymore and do major changes. Even a boot disk takes you to a Safe Mode like GUI.

BTW, next time know what you are posting about.

Then take that up with this site posting Apple news. and get laid while your at it.[/citation]

Yet the name Toms Hardware would mean nothing? It started as a PC hardware Enthusiast site. While it has grown and expanded, Apple is seen as the enemy here because you cannot customize it and as well pay 2x the price for lessor hardware than a PC.

Either way, this article is full of it. Windows 7 has gotten so much praise its quite amazing. Not even XP got this much praise from the IT people until after SP2. Windows 7 not only has their support but also the major PC reviewers support.

And it is that damn good. A IT tech at my work said he had Vista Ultimate on a Netbook and it was pretty laggy. He installed 7 and its faster. Much faster.

Windows 7 will sell very well. My work plans on upgrading from XP to 7 when it comes out, skipping Vista.

I just got a Mac and I love it. However there is one humble request I am making to Apple: Dump that stupid Objective-C crap!!! You are stopping developers to walk into your shop and help you expand your business!!!

[citation][nom]BobtheHog[/nom]Correlation does not imply causation![/citation]
This. But I'll go even further.

The data for extrapolating any sort of correlation to begin with is simply not there. There has only been ONE new Windows release in the past EIGHT years! You simply CAN'T make any sort of correlation with so few data points to link together.

Apple doesn't compete with Microsoft (Despite what people think) it competes with Dell, HP, etc. The OS is the only thing separating Apple products from the other manufacturers. I will also say when the software on your machine is in the 30000-50000 range the cost of the machine is less a factor compared to productivity. A day of my work costs about 700 dollars and my coworkers run about 1000 a day so from a business standpoint the machine cost is more about reliability, tech support, and productivity compared to saving a couple of hundred dollars on the front end.

Funny when my precision workstation costs the same as the apple macbook pro (almost identical specs). I won't argue the desktops are where you go with windows, but when it comes to laptops I definitely notice the difference in design. I favor my Macbook pro compared to the precision workstation due to weight, comfort and less quirks.

this article is nothing but mac boy conjecture. It's as accurate as saying that the Mac platform is the most secure.. really?... I work in IT and support all three platforms and they are all great and awful.. Please in the future relay relevant quantitative information and not speculation based on platform preference. I will not read a damn thing Marcus writes because of this ridiculousness. he is now a TOOL. . yes capital TOOL

Why is Marcus a tool? For reporting on data obtained from another company?
He doesnt bash W7, nor praise OSX.

The data collected has statistical significance with a positive correlation between a new M$ OS and Mac sales.
WHY this correlation exists is anyones guess.

Question the researchers statistical methodology, dont be a douchebag and diss someone who simply passes on 'news'. Especially when they encourage you to make up you own mind.

Sounds like bull... or maybe the THEORY is that Mac fan boys go out and buy MORE Macs to keep the sales numbers high. And then give them away as presents.... :)

Windows7 is better than vista... A lot of people hated vista and went to Macs, simple as that.

Soon the user base for Apples will continue to grow and then eventually hackers will start to spend their time looking into the Mac OS and eventually there will be more viruses/malware/adware/exploitations developed for Apple. They soon will experience the same problems that Microsoft users have. It is only a matter of time. Did you guys believe that Apple has less security issues then Microsoft because their security is better. They have less security issues because people would rather write code to infect hundreds of millions of computers rather then a few million.

so will this be PC's time to win some share back? If history is any indicator, then no. Apple will sell even more Macs thanks to the release of Windows 7.

The prime difference here is that Vista developed bad word-of-mouth advertising and a negative impression on many users. Windows 7 has a very positive buzz about it and has been heavily promoted and pre-tested by a large portion of the public - who then have been spreading how much better it is over what it replaces. Most people will be very inclined to check out what the buzz is over what has been hyped for the past year as "the XP replacement"......

... the key, i think, is innovations... for example... Apple releases the first iPhone... and look, how much rip/spin-offs waz after in the market from LG, Samsung, HTC, Nokia and others...
