[SOLVED] Wondering if i should upgrade cpu or gpu

Hello everyone, i've been thinking of upgrading some parts but since building my pc in late 2017 i haven't kept up with componente news, my system includes the parts listed below:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1400 OC'd at 3.9ghz
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3
GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC (Running at stock speeds, i tried overclocking at one point but decided id rather not risk messing something up, and haven't really messed with oc in more than 6 months)
RAM: 2X4GB Corsair vengeance lp running at 2999 Mhz
Storage: 240gb sandisk SSD and 1tb WD Blue HDD

In Terms of the upgrade iv investigated a bit of the new ryzen processors such as the ryzen 5 3600
and GPU's is where have really not paid any attention to, im looking to save up somewhere around 300-350, maybe 400 if i find something i really like, but at the moment i don't know where to start
So my budget is around $300 to possibly $400

I'd probably update the BIOS and get these parts, sell your current memory.

If your gaming at 1080P the 1060 6gb is still a solid GPU for that resolution.

Mostly just get more fps in new AAA games, ive been playing the new Star Wars game, and although playable, its rarely stable 60fps. usually aroung 40-55

I concur. Upgrade the cpu. I would suggest maybe the 3600x depending on if you want to overclock. Was looking at benchmarks the other day, and it's actually about the performance of an i7 8700k. 16gb of ram would be great to. I currently have that amount with a ryzen 1700x, and it's great. However, found a 16gb kit at Microcenter under 50 bucks, half tempted to pick it up and add to my rig for a total of 32gb just because the price is so cheap. Will probably try to overclock my 1700x to last until the 4000 series.

But I agree with above, sell the 1400, upgrade there, then go to 16gb.

Next steps, if you are going to 144hz then you could look at gpu. I think that 1060 may be ok for 1080p for another year or so. I know when I look at benchmarks vs my RX 580, the 1660 and 1660 super look ok, but not so fast as to feel like they'd be a compelling update. So will probably hold pat for now and see what new cards come out.

About your b450 board, check with your manufacturer. I have an ASRock b350 and with some bios updates it would work according to their support page on my board.
