Question Worth upgrading CPU from Ryzen 2600 to a 3700x?

Hello, is it worth upgrading the ryzen 2600 (OC'ed to 4.00 GHz on all cores) to a 3700x? Getting a 3070 ti soon, actually i have a 980 ti. Thanks

What is the rest of the pc spec, including make and model of the psu?

Why not wait and see how the system performs on the current cpu. A lot will depend on the specific game, resolution and game settings.

At the moment i have 2x8gb corsair vegeance at 3200MHz, a 650w gold corsair. I think the 2600 will botleneck the GPU in my opinion. Resolution 1080p

At 1080p, yea it will hold back the GPU. The easier, and possibly cheaper option, would be to just bump up to a 1440p monitor. If you absolutely want a CPU upgrade, a 5600x would be a better choice, vs a 3700x.

The 2600 core s still very decent. I would try it and see how it performs. If you get FPS you are satisfied with then no problem, just because another cpu might give you a 10% boost in FPS doesn’t necessarily mean the game will be more enjoyable. If you are maxing out the latest games with Ray Tracing it’s possible the gpu is still the limiting factor.

Every system has a limiting factor, even the best systems, otherwise performance would be unlimited. It’s only a problem if you don’t get the performance you want.

If your motherboard is compatible and you really want extra performance, I would suggest the Ryzen 5600X.

Once you have the 3070Ti, the 3700X will do quite nicely, an additional nice ~15-20% boost in FPS...(while you have the 2600, your FPS increase would not be as much, but, would still be nice)

Get the 3070Ti and see if you are happy as is...(if your mainboard supports 5600X, an additional 18% increase in FPS!) You can save and hope to find one at the recent $279 pricing)

3070Ti will be bottlenecked by any cpu at 1080p. Your 2600 with a 3070Ti will do fine on 1440p. I would wait until Zen refresh comes at the later part of the year.

Honestly, with Zen 3 out, I would either buy a 5600X or wait until Zen 4 comes out.

side note: don’t buy an apu from amd if you’re getting a 3070 Ti. The actual CPU performance in it would just be a bigger bottleneck.

I agree if you get a 3070 rtx. Then a 3900 or something in the ryzen 9. Range like any 5000 cpu . Othwrwise its a waste its similar in performance to a 2050 super . I had to drop almost 1000. To get a Rtx 3060ti
