x2 4200+ (s939) problem

this week i bought a x2 4200+ for my computer. it replaces my 3200+.
but when i replaced it the computer starts but my screen stays black.
it looks like my computer doesn't give any signals to my screen but when i put my 3200+ in it again everythings works.
does anybody knows what the problem is? i already updated my bios drivers.

specs:
cpu 3200+
mobo: a8n-sli
vga: 7900 gs

You mean the bios wont appear?
PSU may not giving enough power. Make sure every setting in the bios is at default or automatic setup.

the problem is that i don't get to see anything.
when i turn my computer on, the computer itself works, but my screen stays black the whole time.

Have you tried clearing the bios?

There should be a CMOS reset/clear jumper on the motherboard somewhere which you can use to clear all bios settings and put everything to default. This can quite often fix problems like you're experiencing. Check your motherboard manual for details of what to do.

I replaced my 3500+ with a 4200+ on Saturday, MB is ASUS A8N-SLI DX with 1013 BIOS. No problems at all. Verify your video card is correctly seated.

I have the same mobo as you and I updated the bios and my s939 x2 4200+ worked flawlessly....maybe you were sent a bad processor.

it isn't my videocard, because the computer works properly with my old processor, monsterrocks wich driver do u use for your bios? the 1604 or 1014?

Did you plug in the 4 pin adapter to the motherboard, dunno if it would have been plugged in for the 3200. The chip should work as I put a 4600 and I have the SE budget version of that board.

Aye could be defective I guess, if you've put in the square 4 pin PSU connector like you say then dunno what else really, the harddrive 4 pin slot on the motherboard is for sli so that's irrelevant.

your problem is not that the screen just stays black, its that it is not POSTing at all. you need to unplug your machine from the wall and then clear your CMOS by moving the jbat1 jumper over one prong...there are only 3 prongs on the jumper so the middle one will still be in contact with the jumper along with the prong that was not being used before. once you short it, move it back. plug your maching back in and restart. then go into the BIOS and redo your settings. you don't need a new BIOS, the a8n-sli came with the right BIOS to run a dual core. you would have had to connect the cpu power connector or the P4 connector, as it is called, with the 3200+ so that's not the issue

i cleared the cmos by using the jumper the way jrnyfan said, only i can't get into my bios because after i've cleared cmos i still have the same problem.
maybe my bios wasn't flashed properly, could that be it?

if you drop your old proc in and it works just fine then i would doubt it, you can't mess up the BIOS for only one chip. you might have a dead processor and need to RMA it. if you can, try the chip in another system that has a dual core already...sorry about your troubles! i am by no means an expert on this so don't RMA it on my word only

Sounds to me like the new CPU is either DOA (which is very, very rare but nothing is impossible) or you may have bent one of the pins during installation. Check it very, very closely to make sure none of the pins are bent or missing. Your X2 should simply be a drop-in replacement that requires nothing special to make it work.
