I got my X6800 in the mail today from Microcenter.com... These guys really did an outstanding job on making sure I was happy and getting my chip to me ASAP! Excellent job and I recommend them for in the future even if they do cost a little more cash... in the time of need they proved to be reliable!

I think im gonna be a little girl and just OC it to the Tom's Hardware specs then OC the ram to the amount that Anandtech did... for the video card thats another story... I really dont know much about how the GX2 can handle OC'ing!

BTW! etech4sale.com hooked me up also

I called them this morning to see if they had a ASUS Motherboard P5N32-SLI SE DELUXE... they said maybe... and i put an order in then... they called me back to say it was gonna be shipped... I called them just now to see if it really shipped... and talked to a californian chick that sounded cute lol... they told me it shipped straight out of their provider to me and it will be here by Friday

Nice job Etech4sale! If anyone needs this board they might have more!

I really dont know much about how the GX2 can handle OC'ing!

I think it'll oc fine if you can keep it cool. This could be a problem.

im guessing ill just OC the CPU/RAM and this will be enough for fun... and ill keep the XFX OC'd to the standard that they did for it already 520mhz... unless someone else knows about OC'ing the GX2 :D

I just got my X6800 retail from newegg...

I'm crying, but I'm tring to figure out why. It's either tears of joy that I finally got one of these, or tears of sadness that newegg ripped me off for $1255. Either way, my old computer went up in smoke (literally) earlier this week, so I really did not feel like waiting much longer.

Stuff catching on fire seems to be a good reason to upgrade.

1600 bucks on HDDs? 550 on a RAID card? 1255 on a CPU? I would guess the OP has money to spend and probably doesn't care about the 900 bucks for the monitor :p I mean really, for the price of the HDD's or CPU alone I could build one pretty sweet machine.

too bad you got ripped off for that monitor, for $900 you could've have gotten something twice as good

Actually, I debated for quite a while on the monitor, and I'm happy with my choice. As much as I hate DRM, one of my requirements for this computer is that it have a HDCP-compliant video card and monitor, as I really don't want to get screwed in another few months when I want to watch BluRay / HD-DVD titles that have HDCP protection enabled. There are very few monitors with HDCP support, the Samsung 244t is one of them. I also wanted a widescreen monitor, and I wanted high-res. Overall, I think the 244t met my requirements, and the price was not bad for a 24" LCD.

It's basically $2100 on storage, or $1,000/TB. (Works out to 2.25TB/2.05TiB in a RAID-5 array). It's actually extremely reasonable considering the reliability. My box that just went up in smoke cost me a heck of a lot more for storage than $1k/TB. Plus, the Seagate drives are high-performing, quite reliable (5yr warranty), and they're in a RAID-5 array so I am a bit more comfortable with SATA2, whereas previously I would have only considered SCSI. This way I get 2TB with hardware RAID-5 (aka it will work in linux), and life is good.

(For those wondering, this computer's primary use is as a workstation for my research.)

that system is gonna be sweet! I like that monitor! Wheew its a big one! ha...shipping has to be a bia

I'm hoping it will be sweet, and that nothing will be DoA.

I'm a bit peeved about the shipping though. Newegg had the processor listed as in stock for about 2 minutes at 10am, and I tried to place my order then but it went out of stock during checkout. I was pissed. Anyhow, the proc finally went back in stock at 7:30pm-ish, which meant that I missed the 3pm same-day cutoff, so it won't ship until tomorrow. No delivery on Saturday, I'm out on a business trip on Monday, so that basically means pay for overnight to get it Friday or wait until Tuesday (6 days!!!). I opted for overnight shipping, it ended up costing about $180 for the shipping.

Actually, that's not too bad. The 3-day shipping was about $75 or $80 I think, so for an extra $100 I get it sooner and it's not being bounced around by a UPS truck for a week.

I wasn't saying you went overboard or anything :) Just simply stating that you are spending a lot of cash on the rig and probably did your research. I would love to be able to drop that kind of cash on a computer, or a third of that for that matter :) Hope everythings works great for ya!

I hope it works out too. I really hope that it ships tomorrow and I find out how well it works in time for some weekend fragging... :)

I built this computer to be a dyno queen... just to get some cute little benchmark numbers to post on the web!
