So, I have a friend who is looking at getting the 2017 iMac Pro with the 8 core processor. After some research, I found that the chip in the system is the Xeon W2140B.

I am attempting to convince him to purchase and build his own windows PC. Regardless of the system, it will be used as a workstation for video editing and music production. With this, the addition of the iMac display is a selling point. Still, the main topic of this question is the processor.

After looking at a few benchmarks, it appears that the 3900x beat the Xeon in most rendering processes, however, I would like to ensure that this is the case.

In the end, I would like to provide my friend with a counter windows build that can perform greater than the iMac, with the added selling point of an easier upgrade path.

If anybody has any CPU suggestions for this build that I did not mention those suggestions would be much appreciated. The budget for the system is capped at $5,000 and with a windows machine that will need to include the price of a monitor.

Thank you all for any help in advance!
