I just upgraded from an XP 2400+ to an XP 3000+ (333 FSB). I'm using a Vantec Aeroflow VA4-C7040 HSF, which I also used for the 2400+.

With the 2400+, my idle temp was @35 and full load was @40. With the 3000+, idle is @50 and full load is @54.

I used ASIII, and I've made sure that the HSF is seated properly.

My question is, should the 3000+/Barton run THAT much hotter than the 2400+? I was expecting a few degrees difference, but the difference between the 2 processors seems pretty big to me.

Any opinions?

Thanks.

To answer your question yes the 3000+ pretty much runs that much hotter than the 2400+. Starting right about the 2800+ the temps seemed to jump (the 2700+ also ran a little warm, but not quite as bad.) Your temps are still normal. Anything below 60° C is considered acceptable. A better heatsink would drop your temps some, but like I said, your temps are acceptable so this isn't necessary.

If you ask around, you will find that pretty much everyone agrees that these chips just run hot.

The vantecs are great coolers, but they do have a problem. The fins are a little too close together. If you take the fan off, and use a fine brush to clean the fins, your temps should go down.

Yeah, I cleaned it before I reinstalled it. They do collect the dust!

Thanks!

OK, everything is running fine, so I won't worry about it.

Thanks for your help!

i'm sorry ,i am a freshman
can i ask a question what is"" idle temp was @35 and full load was @40"".I think it may be a new standard to check you amd system,am i right?

I like to build up one of my computer.

He just means his CPU temp is 35° C at idle and with the CPU running at 100% load it is running 40° C.

He is lucky, as generally there is more of change when going from idle to full load.

Nothing more than temperatures.

No, that's just the temperatures (Celsius) when the processor is idle, or working at 100%

My 2800+ runs at about 44 - 45 degrees idle, and maybe about 48 under load. I have it overclocked a little past a 3000+ and it's running idle at about 47 degrees and 50 under load. I think that's pretty great.

Those are the exact same temps I got with an overclocked XP-2500+ when I clocked it to 2.16ghz (XP-3000+) with the stock (crummy) H/S/F.
