Yikes! Another blow to Nvidia

I'm not defending Xbox nor even targetting you mainly, but am trying to understand how some here can even consider themselves console gamers, when all they do is bash on other consoles that aren't from their "favorite" company.
I'm not just blatenly bashing xbox and saying sony will rule. All I'm saying is, as of now, PS2 seems to be the better system. XBox has some great games like Halo. Who can tell the future. Xbox Next might a better system than ps3. Who knows. Frankly, I don't even play console games. And yes, I don't like Xbox's design. Especially the controller. I don't know how people find that thing to be comfortable.

True, but its online capabilities make it easier to play with anyone on the other side, no need to transport it all the time. Plus there is an LCD add-on like PS and GC, you do need to transport it, but jesus, is a few more pounds too much for your poor shoulders?
The point is, its more delicate and heavy. Transporting it requires extra care. Thus it looses to Gamecube/PS2 for parites and stuff.

Then kudos to MS for doing that, don't you think?
Just like saying "The reason the Pentium 4 does so well now is because it has SSE2"... well, good for Intel, no?
*convincive wink*
Its better than the ps2 for online games, NOT better than a PC.

In my opinion, xbox is like a multifunction device. It can do everything, but nothing well.

I've yet to hear about that, got some links to "statistical-level" overheat experiences?
No, I don't have any statistical level. I've just heard and read some overheating issues. Maybe they are false, but it really bugs me when there are some third party companies that come out with cooling systems for the xbox.

Hey I wasn't the one bashing any consoles if you'll recall!

I think ALL consoles blow major chunks compared to PCs, I owned a PS2, and after I got my 1337 computer, I SOLD it, because it was boring, and bought a GUITAR, which unlike a PS2, can get me some CHICKS!

And if you didn't get the point of that post, then well, you're pretty blind.

The technical aspect is true, the reality is SUBJECTIVE.

To you they do, but the fact that there are millions, like me, who see that consoles still have tons of games that the PC could never manage well, such as party games and adventure games, shows how wrong you are, if you are actually stating consoles have nothing. Maybe you just don't play much of the kind of games consoles rock at compared to PC. That's perfectly understandable to why you sold it. But like I said, don't generalize a reality that continues to be followed. Consoles have their pros, PCs as well. Stop thinking one side wins all.

And if you didn't get the point of that post, then well, you're pretty blind.
Nope, your point was simply not well-founded, you have proven nothing, I even countered you, and therefore, you didn't make a point at all with your open-mindedness rant.

I respect that, and also somehow agree. PS2 offers FF 10 and X-2 which are definitely something that gives it a major boost. Soon it'll offer FF 11, though I believe it is more PC-oriented.

Especially the controller. I don't know how people find that thing to be comfortable.
My guess is like my theory, it is an adult-oriented machine, and often adults (at least most of them) have big enough hands to manage it. I didn't find it bad. But they got a controller out for the smaller hands, so all is well!
The point is, its more delicate and heavy. Transporting it requires extra care. Thus it looses to Gamecube/PS2 for parites and stuff.
Point taken and approved!
Its better than the ps2 for online games, NOT better than a PC.
Of course! But hey, you know like I said, consoles have MANY kinds of games which work better on consoles than PCs. And when online gaming is mixed with them, it only makes the experience leaps better than on PC. Conversely, FPS games online on PC, are the ultimate experience for FPS gaming.

No, I don't have any statistical level. I've just heard and read some overheating issues. Maybe they are false, but it really bugs me when there are some third party companies that come out with cooling systems for the xbox.
That's funny to hear, but, it still does not mean it overheats often. Hey, for all we know, those issues occured with people living in the Nevada desert, LOL!

I am sure Consoles have some advanages in some areas like you said. Sure they have pretty good graphics too. Nevertheless, when I go to my friend's house to play a PS2 or a gameCube game it may be fun, but I fill very limited with a console system. I mean with consoles, there will be no updates, MODS, source/engine modifications from released source cod, etc. Plut there are no graphics/resolution options. In fact, I would rather of a lower-mid range PC built on a decent Pentium4/Athlon XP mobo than a console, but that's just my opinion.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

I do remember wanting an XBoX though when they first came out, but they were so darn expensive then. Actually, I could easily forsee withan a couple decades that something resembling a mobile notebook PC might actually replace console gaming. When you think about it, the GAP between Mobile PCs and Desktops is ALOT LESS than it was a few years ago. They now have the latest DirectX 9 technology wiht the FX 5600/ or Mobility Radeon 9600.

Second thought, maybe it won't replace console gaming, but it might be a better route for Microsoft Consoles to explore considering the heating/portability issues the XBOX currently has since MS likes the Semi-PC venue.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

, but I fill very limited with a console system. I mean with consoles, there will be no updates, MODS, source/engine modifications from released source cod,
But I have to ask this in general. Why are people looking at it this way NOW, why not when the SNES was out? Why are we fussing over consoles' powers with such, compared to before?
Weren't they made to just give you fun, no matter what?

As for updates, think back to the SNES with Mario World, and then jump 7 years later with its last games. Then look at the PSX with the first games or even FF7, then look at Chrono Cross' graphics and effects including frame rate. Tell me again that a console can't surpass expectations!
And this is what disappoints me in the crowd today, we're now comparing consoles to PCs. Back with the SNES days, we never did that, we never took it for granted. Consoles offer a big difference compared to PCs, they offer a different experience. Limited or not, you have to continue with the mindset of the past consoles in the past days. Nobody ever attempted to compare a NES to a 286 with the 5" floppies now did they?

No matter what though, don't do like some thinking I am disrespecting you or attacking your opinion. I am just debating the issue and wondering why has the mentality changed so much against consoles lately, in general to all. Games like Zelda would never be as good on PC, I garantee you that. Heck, playing Mario on a NES emulator will never be the same as touching that NES control pad, and playing it on TV. It's simply a different experience...

I have to agree with you there. Consoles aren't meant to compete with PC's; they can't. It is a different experience, and each is better with its own particular games (although overall PC does beat console, and it always will until an upgradeable console comes out that lets you alter source code and.....oh, wait, that's what PC's are for). First person shooters on consoles are no good, ever. Not even the incredibly overrated Halo can compete with even the lower end PC first person shooters. Likewise, games like Super Mario or Final Fantasy aren't ever as fun on the PC as they are on the consoles.

"As for updates, think back to the SNES with Mario World, and then jump 7 years later with its last games."
Exactly. As developers learn ways to optimize the consoles they are making games for, things like performance and graphics improve, even though it is the same machine.

Keep in mind, though, that performance alone does not a good console make. XBox is the prime example of this. It can't compete with Sony as far as gameplay, despite being far superior in hardware.

"Microsoft acquired the rights to the "High Heat" baseball video game franchise from bankrupt software publisher 3DO." And the greatest sports franchise around is now dead.

Finally some real open-mindedness.

PCs should NEVER be compared to consoles, PERIOD!

And yeah, hardware is never representative of gameplay.

Thankfully, when Squaresoft upped the ante with RPGs on SNES and PSX, they did it for both GFX technology and gameplay, and that is commendable. Now lately the PS2 and Xbox just won't look much different at the end of their lifecycle, compared to the SNES and PSX, simply because the hardware in there has become less flexible. X-Box has DX8, granted, however it is easy to go to the end of programmability on it, because it's proprietary, ergo the performance just won't be crap, it's not a PC with different hardware and software. At least IMO the new consoles just won't reach THAT far in game graphics at the end of their lifecycle. The GC though seems to be more flexible. Metroid Prime runs at 60FPS, yet it employs old DX7 graphics boosted to the end. It's got unbelievable landscapes, far distance viewing.

And I DO have to commend Nintendo for making MP a damn good console FPS. I mean, for an FPS, it certainly plays well and comfortably (thank god for lock-aiming).

Technically MP is classed as a First Person Platformer. It offers more variety than an FPS but the auto-lock feature takes away the essence of a FPS.

FPS will never be as good on a console as they are on a PC simply because a PC uses a mouse and that does make a big difference.

But then again you can't really push another player over on a LAN party to get an unfair advantage.

WS, I can buy TWO R9600Pros for LESS than one Parhelia, EVEN OEM! So no DUH yet! Also PS, I don't really care WHAT it cost, I care if it's COST effective. Does 3 cards make it look AWESOME? If so, then an R420 flanked by two RV380s (or even R420s) sounds good to me. But even 2 RV380s (1=1 2=2,3) or one R420 and one RV380 should likely do pretty damn good up against a single card solution (but then again it all depends on the cards). Three Rage 128s aren't going to hold a candle even to a current Parhelia so it's not THAT easy IMO.

WS was talking about 3 cards costing more than a single card solution for surround gaming. Sorry I've been busy for 2 days!

The PS3 will be nowhere near as popular as either the PSOne and PS2. The PS3 will suck big time. All it has left to rely on is the GTA series of games.

The FF and Res Evil crowd will flock to the Cube and it's next of kin while serious gamers will flock to the XBox2.

As it stands the PS2 cannot match the XBox or GC for power or game quality, it is just riding on the success of the PSOne and the GTA series of games.

I'd say the PS2 is still doing well, however its golden days were the past years.

It DID have FF 10, and MGS 2. Unique games.

Sales wise the PS2 is doing fine but not hardware wise.

After FFX-2 and FFXI which are already finished, all FF games will be on Nintendo consoles.

MGS 2 revamp was available on all 3 consoles and while MGS3 is going to PS2, MGS Twin Snakes will be a GC exclusive.

Over christmas the GC should do a lot better as it has the strongest game line up. If MS can get Halo2 out before christmas the XBox will enjoy better sales. But the PS2 has no major titles out this year, Tomb Raider sold nowhere near as expected or hoped, many people didn't care for the title and those that did didn't know when it was to be released.

And the next generation Microsoft will come out best, as much as it hurts me to say it as I'm a GC fan. But XBox2 is rumoured to launch with a good lineup, possibly a Halo game as well.
