[SOLVED] 4K monitor and GTX 1080, viable?

I am looking to buy a 4K monitor, but I am reluctant because my setup is rather old. I have an i7 8700k and a GTX 1080. I am not sure if 4k is a viable option. Since there's so many options out there, am I just wasting my money?

The monitor I am looking at is this, but has a 60Hz refresh rate. I hear higher ones are better, but also heard if the graphics card cannot handle it, it is moot anyhow.

a 1080 will resolve 4K for viewing. For gaming I would give a general answer of no.

Get the best monitor you can with an eye for the future. I run my 4K tv in 1080/120 for my 1080 equipped gamer...at least until the 3000 or future series comes back down in pricing.

for media, yes. I use my ASUS GTX 1080 STRX all the time for watching uhd disks or digital files on my uhd tv.
for gaming, no. you would have to turn all the game settings to minimum and maybe be lucky to get 30-40fps (depending on game)

I agree there, be sure to check specifications to know the processing capacity.
