Hi All

I have a dual boot configuration using Win98/XP in XP my USB Alcatel Modem works fine, however fails after an amount of time online in Win98. Im convinced it's something USB wise in 98se, I have searched Microsoft Knowledge base but found nothing useful, do any of you guys have any ideas?

Cheers

Geoff

what do you mean it fails? does it stop responding? does it unload itself? can you reconnect after it fails?

how do you shoot the devil in the back? what happens if you miss? -verbal

Be more specific please. Is your connection just dropped? What happens if you reset the modem?

Hi

Sorry I wasnt more specific, it usually occurs when I am downloading from a website large files eg. always fails on Windows Update, basically the download will freeze, however the PC remains stable.

I have an AV7 mobo, with the VIA chipset, I gather this can give problems, however it seems strange that I don't have any such problems with Windows XP, I intend on trying a PCI USB card to bypass the chipset, would this be of any help?

to get windows update to work, just clear your temp files from your browser before running it.

I will give emptying the .tmp files a go tonight. Going to get my hands on a USB PCI expansion card over the weekend, see if the problem is the USB hub being controlled by the VIA Chipset

Will let you all know how I get along

no, what I meant is to clear the temp files from your browser (tools, internet options, delete files)
