Hey everyone, so the issue is that im not 100% sure that am5 is coming next year with ddr5. So my question is should i just make a build with a 9600k and ddr4 ram now and upgrade to a ryzen 9 4th gen and XX80TI next year (Big boost in income next year). So should i buy ddr4 and a 3600 now and expect next year to have am4 and ddr4 or should i budget out with a 9600k and 16gb of cheaper ram and completely repace these components next year.

Impossible to predict but I wouldn’t expect anything over the normal incremental performance increases, seen nothing to suggest a ‘big boost’ over what we normally see.

If you need a new pc now just buy what fits your budget and requirements now. If you play the waiting game for the next big thing you will never buy anything.

Why not go for Ryzen setup now, a good x470 or x570 MB and Ryzen 3700x ? It's not going to be any worse than 9600k if not better and when you are ready for R9 3950x just swap it in.
3600 MHz RAM will be perfect for Ryzen of any generation.

AM4 is going to be around for at least another year, so AM5 isn't probably going to be released till 2021, at the earliest. As we have been getting a new generation, every year, 4th gen will still most likely be AM4/DDR4.
I saw some reports of ddr5 being ready for shipment this year and how amd said that am4 will be lasting until 2020, so it gave me the conclusion of this happening, hopefully am4 does not change, but if it does, i might just stick with the ryzen 9 with ddr4 i guess.
