Cant connect to internet with certain apps?

please help me. i can connect to internet with Internet Explorer, but not Firefox, Americas Army, Battlefield Vietnam, and some other things. its not my firewall. i dont know what else it could be. im running on Vista home Basic.

Hey,

It sounds bit strange that you cannot browse websites with Firefox. Which version are you using? Did you check your proxy settings in Firefox? I assume you do not use proxy so you shouldn't have defined one in FF options.

As for other games they all need certain ports forwarded on the router (also, as you mentioned, firewall needs to be set properly).

For example:

Battlefield Vietnam TCP: 4711,14667,28900 UDP: 15567,15690,4555-4557,23000-23009,27900

Hope this helps, if not, we will need some more details on your problem, like FF version, error message, vista app. logs etc.

Try the following:

Open command prompt
type: Ping www.google.com

I'm wondering if the security is set sky high or not. If so, ping requests would be blocked...

wierd. anything that i type in command prompt says "watever i type" is not reconized as internal or external command. ok im using firefox 3. when i try to connect it gives me this: Failed to Connect













Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-us.start2.mozilla.com.







Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.


i am NOT using a router. im directly hardwired to me modem.

aj95 - you have to be able ping something.

Go to start - run - type in cmd and hit enter.
now type in:
ping google.com
ping yahoo.com

let us know what happens. It must do something.

Are you sure it is not firewall?

Do you have system firewall ON or OFF?
Do you have any 3rd party intrusion detection software or something installed?
Do you have firewall on your modem? (some modems have firewall built in)

All signs on the sky point to firewall problem.

Error logs can be pulled out from:

Right click on my computer - manage and go to event viewer.
Look in application or system for red marked errors.

Let us know what's up.

ALL my firewalls are off. and i dont think its my modem. and theres LOTS of errors.
