Hi,

Just cloned an Adata 500gb SSD Windows 10 boot drive to a Samsung 870 EVO 1TB drive using free Macrium Reflect Home. I removed the original drive from my desktop and plugged in the new drive and powered the system on. The new cloned Samsung drive booted the computer up but is displaying a very old version of my Win10 desktop from 3 - 4 years ago. Any new apps such as Macrium are gone and its showing apps that were deleted a while ago. I removed the new cloned boot drive and reinstalled the old boot drive and the same thing happened and Windows 10 is trying to update using patches from 2021. How to I get the computer to boot with the updated/current version of Win10 with my current apps and files? I have cloned/imaged many drives in the past and not had this problem and I do not know what happened or how to fix it. All advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, will do shortly. No, I said 3 -4 years ago 1) based on the files now showing on the booted desktop from both drives and 2) Windows is updating using patches dated from 2021. I'm starting to think its booting from the recovery partition????

What it seems to me is that....

Of your previous cloning, you left the old OS on whatever drive it was on.
Now...it is booting from one of those.

Power OFF
Physically disconnect ALL drives except this new 870 EVO.
Power ON.

Does it boot up properly, in this drive?

yes, sorry i wasn't clear. I already tried that and the 870 is booting with the same old version of win10. After that failed I reinstalled the original Adata drive after powering off and completely disconnecting the 870. I then restarted the computer and same thing happened. This makes no sense to me since all I did was image the Adata to the larger 870. Done this several times with other computers and never had this problem.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I really appreciate it. I reinstalled the new 870 and some how (still not completely sure why it worked) after changing the boot order it booted with the correct version of win10 and i used Minitool Partition Wizard to add the unallocated drive space to my c:. Still not sure why that didn't happen when I cloned the drive with Macrium but I'm taking this as a win. Thanks again.
