I saw someone who had posted that their Q6600 was not fast enough when overclocked and wanted a newer Penryn chip. I disagree, you just need a better cooling solution and to give her more juice. :) I'm very happy with this chip as it performs like no other.Idle Temps are around 50c and 58 under load.I plan to try and hit 4.2 GHZ by the end of the week.Here are the settings and timings used.

CPU Voltage 1.575
FSB Voltage 1.500
Mem Voltage 2.200

Multiplier x9
FSB 1777 or 4x444
Mem Timing 5-5-5-15@1066 Unlinked

With CPU at 1.52 volts im really not suprised lmao, usually WC'd CPU's dont ever get over 50degrees, yours in near that at idle :D

Watch out mate theres some things in a loop that arent that friendly with 60degrees + I hear.

Try to use this heatsink^^ it will lower the CPU temperature so much and this is what I'm using to cool down my Pentium D 965

@Sparky6string
I don't have any pictures yet as my system isn't completly finished yet. Still a lot of wires and other things showing.
As soon as I finish it though I'll post some pics.

@Maziar
I'm still trying to get it clocked a little faster. I'd like to get it to 4.2Ghz or higher if possible. I'll post a 3DMark06 score as soon as I max this baby out. :)

@Hatman
I'm still trying to gather the courage to go to 1.6v and beyond.

@Lobo929
Why would I replace the water setup I'm using (that took me 4 hours to configure and cost way too much money) and replace it with a HSF?

Thanks for the encouragment guys! (or girls) I'll update this thread if I can get it any higher and post a 3DMark06 score when I (eventually) hit a wall.

Funny thing happened to me a few minutes ago.

When I bought my water setup I made sure to spend the extra $20 and get a variable speed pump so I can adjust it (Settings are from 1-5).I was so excited to get it and put it together that I didn't bother to check what setting the pump was on when it was shipped to me.So just now I decided to take a look and was amazed to see it was on 2.Needless to say I bumped it up to 5 and it dropped my temps further to 46c Idle and 51c under load (all while still clocked at 4.0Ghz).Awesome :) I'm going to see if she'll take any more punishment and will update this thread in a bit with a screen shot and a 3DMark06 score.

Sorry, but I have to doubt your findings. My Q6600 also clocks 4GHz, but only screening. Every chip is different, but a Q6600 B3 stepping, and 51°C on load, I'd say, what kind of load you talk about... Also, getting it stable at 4GHz on a 680i chipset would be a world premiere worth a thread on xtremesystems.

Please, shoot us a Prime95 or dual orthos stability test so that you see the real temperature of your system. Even on water, a Q6600, G0 or B3 can't prime at 51°C, unless you have an ambiant temperature of 15°C every day...

I'm really interested to see your Orthos/Prime load temperature (small FFT) as I have also a rather good Q6600 for a B3 stepping

I see, interesting link. And you're really lucky also :pt1cable:

I'm still interested in your load temperatures while priming, could you mention them at 3.9GHz?

What do you mean mention them? You want a screen shot of prime95 running at 3.9? Here you go. Small FFT's like you asked for before. Let me know what you think. Also my Vista installation was corrupted somehow (couldn't access certain features like control panel\very unstable even when clocked at default)so I'm using Win XP SP2 that I had installed as a dual boot. Just in case you wondered why the earlier shots are showing Vista Ultimate.

The image link seems broken

I do believe you, just wanted to know your coretemp temperatures when running small FFT at 3.9GHz. No need for a picture, just your temperature readings would help

Many thanks

Core 1 - 50c
Core 2 - 61c
Core 3 - 61c
Core 4 - 51c

Cores 1 & 4 stay consistently at 50c - 53 Cores 2 & 3 fluctuate from 49c - 63c so it's hard to get anything exact. Everest,Speedfan and the Nvidia monitor show 49c - 53c when running Prime at 3.9Ghz. At 4.0Ghz temps only increase by 2 or 3 degrees.

You got yourself a great chip and very nice températures. The 10°C difference between cores is rather enormous. Maybe it is the dangerden kit. A Fuzion or a GTX WB would suerely help. But at 4GHz you rock :)

Nice, man , but i've got a few questions for you
How are the load temps
are these your normal idle temps cause if they are they're high
and How's the stability ... using cpustab , or prime95 ..
I booted up at 4.0 @ 1.575 v .. but the temps drove me crazy , i hit mid 70's really easy at load and idle was all mid40's to 50 .

jonny_ftm the 10c difference between cores is rather large. I would agree that it has to do with the way my current water block disapates the heat. I have the DD Maze5 block which is supposedly designed for Intel quad cores.

Mosdapwn I'm not sure I understand the question. The first shot above is at 4.0Ghz Idle and the next shot is at 3.9 Under load (Prime95 small FFT's for 15 min). If you are asking what my temps are at the default speed of 2.4 Ghz I would say idle 32c-38c under load 40c-46c. Instability has not been much of an issue for me at 4.0Ghz. But having it under load at 1.60v for extended periods worrie's me a bit (Even though temps never reach 65c). However I can play games, encode video, run Prime95 or 3DMark.

Maziar I'll post a 3DMark06 score today so check back in a little while. The last time I ran it I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,000 which isn't too shabby for only having one 8800GTX.

15mn small FFT's at those temperatures is rather excellent for that oc. But sure, expect a 5-7° increase after 1-3h of prime05 depending on th ewater volume you have in your circuit. As opposed to air, it will take some time to the water to get warm and stabilize. For a real appreciation of stability, you'll need a Prime95 on about 4h and temperatures at the end of the test.

But yes, I agree. If I had your same chip, I'll do exactly like you: as long as you can encode, play and use your PC at 4GHz without errors, no need to insist on a theorical extreme conditions of Prime95 small FFT

Yeah I don't mind running Prime95 for hours at a time but I would like to be around to monitor it. Right now I just don't have the time with having to work so much. But hopefully I'll be trying it soon.

Maziar 3DMark06 kept crashing to the desktop at 4.0Ghz and my video card at 650Mhz\1100Mhz. So with my CPU at 3.9Ghz, card at stock 600Mhz\900Mhz and memory at 5-5-5-15 1066Mhz I got a score of 14203. I guess I didn't have the approved forceware 158.22 drivers so it can't be confirmed by Futuremark. Ill redo it using the approved drivers.
