CPU multiplier locked, running half it's frequency

So I ordered a 2.8ghz northwood p4 (533/512) for my P4S533 motherboard off ebay. My motherboard is flashed and capable of supporting this CPU, but the multiplier in my bios is locked (motherboard is set to jumperfree/manual settings) to 12x instead of 21x, so it runs like a 1.6ghz instead of the 2.8ghz it is. Why is this CPU locked and is it possible to unlock? Thanks in advance!

What's the S-Spec of your CPU?

That's an Intel Mobile Pentium 4. Are you sure your BIOS supports that CPU? Did you read this note? "Processor frequency is reduced to 1.6 GHz in battery-optimized mode (1.2V)". http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_4/Intel-Mobile%20Pentium%204%202.8%20GHz%20-%20RK80532GE072512.html

Ha! I had no idea. Do I just need to increase the voltage, or get a refund?

The VCore specs are 1.475 - 1.525V. You lose nothing increasing the voltage. Didn't the place you ordered that CPU from specify that it's a Pentium M?

Well, I increased it to 1.4v (as high as my motherboard goes), and it didn't do anything. Do you have any other ideas?

when i look at hardware monitor it says my vcore voltage is 1.24. Is that significant and how do I raise it? it's set to 1.4 already

Some motherboards may not be able to use a mobile CPU. I thought that laptop's have different socket's anyways?

If ther options are not available in the BIOS then there is little you can do. My advice is scrap that thing and buy a non-mobile P4.
