I recently installed a Seagate 250GB Model ST3250318S hard drive into a Dell Optiplex 280 running Windows XP. The system correctly identifies the drive, but then asks for a driver for it. Where do I find the driver and how do I install it?

Are there other SATA drives in your PC that already function?

I'm not sure what's going on but when I looked at the Dell site for that model of PC I do note they offer some SATA drivers and one of them is for 250GB but they call it a Maxtor Utility.

If the hard drive is recognized as you say then what does it say for that hard drive in your device manager?

Is there a question mark for it or does it say "this device working properly"?

Might be an idea to go to the Dell site, input your PC's service tag, and then see if there are any drivers available that you require.

Thanks for responding to my question. This unit contains one hard drive. The Device Manager shows that the hard drive is installed and running correctly. Dell's website offers nothing helpful. Would installing a larger hard drive (the previous one 80 Gig) trigger this?

On an unrelated subject...does anyone know where I can find out how to deal with a Thunderbird crash?
