I can't figure this one out.
I have windows 2000 sp 4 Dx9 c.

When i stick in a Game install disk(the latest bad game being Rainbow 6: raven shield) the autorun is triggered..the hour glass comes up and stays up.

i check the task manager and see that setup.exe is being loaded over and over again ....it will keep loading until i eject the disk. Eventually all those setup.exe processes end normally.

I am using an LG CD-RW 52x 24x 52x (which i bought recently thinking my old one was at fault)

Anyone else have this problem?

I have checked the web and discovered no similiar problem.

I am wondering if copy protection might be causing this since its only a few games...and if i try to install on my dvd rom instead...nothing at all happens.

yes, these are original disks.

TIA :)

You might want to disable your anti-virus if it is currently running. Other than that. I have no clue what your problems might be except for a bad cd-rom. Can you install other types of software via cd-rom?

yup...as i say. Its just a few game installations that are doing this.

And this is already a new cd-rw to try and correct a possible hardware problem.

In my other drive (a standard panasonic DVD rom), usually the disk is not even recognized.

This is what makes me tend to think it has something to do with the game's copy protection.

But..i've never heard anyone else complain about endless setup.exe looping.

Perhaps i should also ask...what is the MOST COMPATIBLE cd-rw rom on the market?

Edit: and thinking about it.. thief: deadly shadows is another one. Except in this case ...i was able to explore to the installation file on my DVD rom and get it to install.
