Having trouble with FDISK on my new disks ...

IBM 75GXP Telesto 30Gb running on KT7RAID on IDE3 & IDE4 HPT370 (... NO im not RAID'ing them yet ..jus want to get them running)
Im using ATA100 80-way cables with the jumpers set to master and slave for 16 heads as appropriate (all set to master-16 on receipt)

QUESTION is how long should this take ... each time I try it takes about 10 hours of activity per disk then locks up at 98%... I thought maybe it was busy and not evident on screen, so left it for another 6 hours. ... NOTHING !!!

I downloaded the new FDISK from MS ... similar results

I downloaded IBM Disk Manager ... similar results (with either FAT16 & FAT32) except no screen clues !! (really helpful eh ?)

Anyone any ideas ?

run fdisk on the native ide controllers; your udma 5 drivers are not loaded yet...start to finish should be no more than 20 minutes.
Also, ata 100 should be the first boot device in sequence.

I would think that you gotta RAID em with the RAID controller. Once you set the RAID up you have to FDISK and reformat anyhow. The RAID has to be primary master and secondary master.
