Another question, have a GT430 and A GT520 that I can stuff into a machine I have that just sits around most of the time ( a data recovery/copy box) .
will these do any good do you think, and if only one will run, witch one is better for folding?

Took a little searching but it appears the Gt430 will produce 4000-8000 PPD depending on work unit.

The gt520 seems to be in the 4000-6000ppd range.

Welcome and thanks for folding.

OK, and is there a way to tell FAH that the second card is idle all the time and just to us it?

Yeah since he is not around much and not folding at this time we can blame it all on him.
Works for me.

On another topic. I'm running "advanced" flags on three cards ,but only get 8018 work units since I got back.

Was occasionally getting a 8900 or 762? unit before.

Do I need to sacrifice something or someone? Update me client to the new beta one ?
!^)%%$@%&* these 8018 are TERRIBLE for mine and the teams points.
Suggestions? Comments? (good ones)

Or just suck it up and pray to the Great Flying Spaghetti Monster (god)?????

On Windows it is just luck of the draw - I don't think that any of those will make a difference. On Linux you only get Core 17 WU (8900 currently), which is why I have my 660 and 780ti on Linux 😀 . What client are you on, 7.3.6?

One box is on 7.3.6 - 650ti boost @1240
Other box is 7.2.15 pair of 460 ti@850 and AMD 1600t 6 core@3.5
The 650TI box will finish in a few hours. Will see if I can flash the VC bios and put Ubunto on it.

Yeah, Overclocking in Ubuntu is one downer - however you can get fan control rather easily :) . Both of my cards already turbo as high as I would want them to run.

A good number of the top folders on some of the top teams have switched to BOINC after the bigadv ruckus on FF. And there should be some big announcement/change/addition on folding soon. So it looks like the future will be interesting and uncertain.

You need to configure another GPU slot.
Instructions are about 1/3 of the way down this page.

Install the card.
Add a GPU slot and fold away.

Added the card, added slot, but it still says paused waiting for idle. there are no displays connected to the second card.

It's amazing. My team manages ~30k a day and we commonly get through 4-5 teams a day. Sometimes we get a boost from a part time folder towards 100k. Our 909 wu's have us passing some teams with 46k wu's point wise. :ouch:

EDIT: Oh, we aren't talking about that anymore. Hello new page!

randomstar - do you want it to wait for idle on one card and run full on the other?

icraft - back in the day 1WU = 1 point, so teams that died out long ago have very few points to the number of WU.

I would like it to run that way if it can, otherwise not too much benefit for the second card..

It appears that the useage slider needs to be set to full on version 7.3.6. Otherwise it will wait for the screen saver before Gpu folding starts.

OK. was thinking that there was a way to have it act more independantly than that. ( each slot should have its own slider so we can ramp up a second card without making the whole system run 100%)

there might be a way.
I am a hardware guy. Not so good on software.
EXT64 might know of a way. He is much more knowledgeable on the software side than myself.
I had to look up my answers above. ???

I have a couple of extra dual socket servers layng around, was thinking of racking them up and setting them to work. xeon / operon a couple of years old, only 4 gb /8gb ram but should still be good enough to get some cpu numbers in. I am not paying for electricity in my server room ( i support the building sometimes, so they throw me a bone on that, no meter!)

I am running an older 2p server board with a pair of 3.0ghz 4 core intel cpus.
Get about 22,000 to 24,000 ppd out of it.
Every little bit helps.

May as well set them up and see what they produce.

@Unolocogringo - I think this worked on the old one, independently running slots. I would run the GPU when I wasn't gaming. But I would constantly be pausing and unpausing just to watch youtube videos that I stopped. It would be helpful to those that run SLI rigs to have this functionality.

I'm looking into the slider for separate slots thing - I don't know off the top of my head as all mine run full continuously. It might be possible with some fancy config work but I do not know yet.

Do you know any specs of the 2P systems? 4GB of ram is plenty.

Oh, yeah, that is old. I don't know if that is still true (for Core 17 NVidia definitely needs a free core, AMD is more debatable).

I have something for you to try randomstar.

Open up Advanced Control -> Configure -> Slots

and then select the GPU slot that you want to pause on idle and click Edit.

Then go down to the extra slot options and click Add (at the very bottom, if this section does not show up you might need to be in expert mode).

Add "idle" to the Name box and "true" to the value box (both without quotes).

Then click Ok -> Ok -> Save.

Then move the global folding power slider to full and that "should" do what you want.

Let me know if that makes any sense or works (I am not sure how familiar you are with advanced control, so if you need more details just ask). I have not tested this (and neither have those who suggested this I think) so it is a bit of an experiment 😀

I will be trying that tonight as well EXT. I am mostly playing L4D2 right now which doesn't need SLI'd 560 Ti's to run and it annoys me that one card is needlessly idle for hours at a time.

Got the card bios flashed.
Installed Lubunto 13.04
But I can not get the Nvidia drivers installed.
I used the software updater and installed the304 andthe 310 update but F@H does not recognize a video card.
I downloaded the 317?? driver from Nvidia but have no idea how to install it.
Help would be appreciated
Thanks.
