The manual install drivers can be a little bit of a pain. But that is what I do for my 660. At least you got graphics on startup - I got a beautiful black screen on boot with my 780ti and 13.10 (stock drivers didn't know what a 780ti was).

This kind of covers the main methods: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/ubuntu-ringtail-nvidia.html

For complete manual install you have to jump to a terminal, kill the graphics, make the file you downloaded executable, run it, say yes to everything it asks, reboot when done and cross your fingers. It has a 50/50 shot of working  (just kidding not that bad - I did have a TON of fun getting my 780ti working).

In your current config can you open the NVidia Control Panel (or NVidia Xorg Config or whatever it is called)?

Yep, blame it on me. Everybody else does.....

Hey DD, thanks for the points inflation!

You're welcome!

😀

I have the NVidia X-Panel and can configure it.
I removed the F@H packages and reinstalled.
The config.xml file was not removed.
When I reinstalled the F@H packages I was not given the option to configure. All of my information is still there.
Name, Team number ,pass key etc...

I tried to delete the config.xml file after removing all packages again. No go . I could not remove, rename or move. Permission denied.
I tried to change permissions. No Go.
Is this a wipe it clean and start over with a new install of everything, kind of situation?
Thanks again for your help.
Rick

So, how do you start FAHClient in Linux? Do you have it autostart? I have it set not to autostart and I start it manually by calling FAHClient. If you do it by that method it will create all of the config/work files in whatever directory you are in when you call FAHClient. So if you make a new folder and navigate to it then call FAHClient, you can get your stuff reconfigured.

What I do is

EXT64@Computer ~ $ FAHClient

[Enter Key]

Should run from terminal. If not, you may have it under root. sudo would have to be applied.*

*NOTE: I cannot be responsible for all root priveledges given on any system. SUDO at your own risk!

I have all three comps set to autostart.
We have very flaky power and it goes out a lot.
I have all three comps set to restart on power loss. Automatic sign in. And auto start folding.
Otherwise folding would stop every time the power flickered.

So what does your config file that is stuck there currently say? And what error do you get when a GPU slot is added and you tell it to fold?

Have you tried deleting the config file as root, after making sure all FAHClient/Core/Control are killed?

Anyone have experience on folding with a GTX 770? My 280x purchase went through, and my 7770 is dead for all intents, so I needed a card ASAP. I got the PNY OC 770. The dual fan with a boost of 1202, 2GB.

A 770? Yeah, they aren't bad at all. A little less PPD than a 7970 perhaps (though that is a decently high OC), though I think they might draw a little less power too. In Windows you will get a mix of Core 17 (8900) and Core 15 (no QRB, low points). Linux is Core 17 all the way, however you get to have the loads of fun Unolocogringo is having  I haven't folded a 770 personally, but I have folded above and below with good results.

One note, I believe with little kepler (770/680 and down) you have to be careful with drivers. See MM's post a little while back, but the newest drivers I think still get bad PPD.

Bad? Mugabi is bad, Stalin was bad, the way your PPD will tank is way worse!

From the website:

While Folding@Home was a noble project and still continues delivering excellent data for scientists to pour over to this day, it had one major flaw: it used up idle cycles. While this meant you could have it running whenever you weren’t using your PC, it makes it much harder to operate while you’re actually sitting at your machine. Ideally then, you’d have something that could operate at full speed while you were using it and that’s exactly what Cancer Research UK has done, with this new, free game that helps cure cancer while you play.

Instead of having to do nothing to fold, you have to waste time to play this. If it was something like WoW solving cancer research in the background, I could understand, but seems unlikely that enough people would play enough of this to help. I hope it does well but have obvious reservations. I will play this when I get home from work though.

Added: Just read the part where they have mobile apps. This could actually work, so long as the game is entertaining enough and has replay value.
