Question Graphics card for old system

I have an old system that I primarily use as a Plex server/Media PC. Recently, the GPU died, and so I need to figure out a new alternative. I had ordered an AMD RX 5500 xt on a good deal, but when I boot with it, the Bios screen flashes (and I can get into BIOS) but after that, I get a black screen. The monitor is detected as it doesn't go to sleep.

System Specs:
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3
Processor: AMD FX 8350
Memory: 8GB, (don't remember the brand/speed, but can look if it's helpful)
PSU: Corsair (not sure of the model) 650w
Several drives (DVD, SSD Sata, HDD)
Dead GPU: Radeon HD 7850

Yes, I know it's ancient, I'm planning on building a replacement next year, but I just did a fairly expensive build on my primary PC last year, and I'm hoping to not have to do a brand new build this year. So ideally I just need something to tide me over for another 6-9 months. If I can get the 5500 xt working (any thoughts here?), great; otherwise, any suggestions on a card or cards that's as good or better than the 7850 I had, and will likely work with my ancient MB and processor? I prefer AMD as that's what I'm used to working with, but would go NVidia if it made sense.

Thanks.

Your motherboard will be using a legacy bios.
You can tell that because it is monochrome with simple text.
Modern graphics cards need a UEFI bios to be detected.
UEFI will be in color with better graphics.
The transition was about 2014.
Something like a GTX750ti or earlier should work
What was your previous graphics card?
Look on ebay for a replacement.
