How does DV and missile effectiveness work when it comes t..

I know missive effectiveness and willpower prevent "shrugging off", but
how much? Is there a formula? I leveled magic missle from +40 to +50 to
fight off an emperor lich once, but it didn't make much of a difference
at all when it came to shrug offs.

Also, what's the DV formula for dodging attacks? I remember grues
hitting me when I had over 100 DV and corrupting me! I would like to
know why they were able to hit me so easily, formula please.

Grues have a very high to-hit modifier.

I'm afraid I can't help you with this.

I believe it's [to-hit bonus of attacker] + [RNG] - [DV of defender]; if
the result is positive, then the attack hits. I'm not sure what the
range generated by the RNG for this is. I think it might be 1-20, but
I'm basing that strictly off ADOM's many similarities to D&D.

Love and coffee,

I seem to recall Thomas stating that the test is either
1d(20 + to-hit bonus) >= 1d(DV)
or
1d(20 + to-hit bonus) >= DV
with a few caveats added. (Could be > instead of >=, and there are also
automatic hits and probably automatic misses with a certain low
probability).

Which of the two is more accurate should be very easy to find out with a
bit of testing. With a to-hit bonus of +10 and a DV of 20, the first one
would predict a hit chance of about 68%, while the second would predict
a chance of about 37%.

I've had beastfighters with over 100 DV sometimes miss non quicklings.
Maybe the RNG can throw a curveball? Maybe it could be negative or even
a guaranteed 5% chance of missing?

Although I don't play wizards anymore because they're boring, the
effectiveness thing would interest me. It's amazing that +50
effectivity spells can be shrugged so often...
