Question How should I go about upgrading my CPU?

I'd like to upgrade my PC's processor.

Currently I have: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)

I'm not sure what is compatible with my computer, which is my cause for hesitation.

I have an Alienware Aurora R7:
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

I feel as if my CPU is the weaker part of my PC, and causes my games to run slower than they should. I want to upgrade it without it being bottlenecked by the other parts I have.

Any recommendations? My budget is $350 but preferably not over $300

Is the monitor connected to the motherboard and not the gpu?

Clear off 25GB+ of stuff from the OS disk.
You want to keep at least 15% free space.
