[SOLVED] I7-8700k to I7-11700 worth the upgrade?

So I'm wanting to game at 1080p and eventually switch to 1440p. Would the FPS increase be worth the switch if I did upgrade from my 8700k to 11700? Or should I got with the i7-10700K?


Here are my specs:
RTX 3080 EVGA FTW
I7-8700k @4.7GHz
PSU 850w Corsair
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz
H100 Corsair Liquid Cooler
x3 Samsung SSD's - x2 500g x1 1 Terra
144 Hz 1080p Acer Monitor

Seems like you have a pc up for it. 11700K has some improvements, but it’s not worth the money over the 10700K. My opinion: Go for that 10700K. If other than the AIO plate, nothing is stopping you, AMD is a great option too. Went to a micro center yesterday and asked about and they said that AMD 5th gen beats Intel (10th and 11th gen I believe) in both multi and single core performance. I’m building with a 5900X and 3080 Ti, it’s a great combo for performance.

You'd need a new motherboard (LGA1200) to support the newer CPU's. Here's a comparison of the 3 you listed to help you decide. If your 8700k is maxing out near 100% it may be a worthwhile upgrade and increase fps but it will be costly.

Yeah if I was going to upgrade I'd upgrade my motherboard too! What cpu would you recommend I get if I did this?

It would be worth it, but the price to performance ratio is not worth it.
As u go towards higher resolution, the load on the GPU increases; That cpu is a solid performing cpu, I wud say dont, rather wait until the next iteration of processors are launched and then make the jump;

Yes, from news, i heard 12th gen Intel with ddr5 is coming out in late 2021(although take it with a grain of salt as they r still rumors). I found an article:

But, your call, of course...(last time I checked, the 8700K was still very much competent!)

That's what I was thinking too! I had so many people say it's a bottle neck, but what I'm thinking is it's my power connectors to my GPU.

I have x2 8 pin connectors straight from my PSU to GPU then there's one 8 pin connector that branches off one of the 8 pins that run from my PSU to GPU and is connected straight to my GPU. (I know this is confusing lol), but I think that's why I'm running at such low FPS. So I ordered another single 8 pin pcie connector, we will see what happens!
