Hello,
Is it worth it to buy i7-7700k in 2024/5? Right now I have i5-7500 which I have bought in 2017 . My motherboard is MSI H110M PRO-VD, so i7-7700k is the best CPU for my socket (LGA 1151). Is it worth to upgrade? I can get this CPU for 120 USD / 115 EUR used. Will I feel the difference? Is it worth the money?
My GPU is GTX 1660 and I have 16GB RAM. I would appreciate any help, because I don't feel like getting a whole new PC 😉

Absolutely not, IMO. Why? Microsoft has drawn a hard line on 8th generation minimum for Win 11 support.

Not realy worth it.
That would be upgrade from 4core/4thread to 4core/8thread cpu.

For ~$250 you can upgrade to 6core/12thread + 4efficiency core cpu.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i5-12600KF 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor ($146.51 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock H670M Pro RS Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $236.50

Thanks for the help, I will go for new MOBO and new gen CPU, is it worth and safe buying it used though?

There is better than a 25% uplift in performance with the 7700K vs the 7500. Keep in mind that you will also need a good cooler if you are still using the stock one. EoS on W10 isn't until October and even at that with a few changes like an aftermarket AV solution it should be fine to continue using into the next year or so. As time goes on you would have to consider moving over to other 'aftermarket' solutions in other areas to stay secure on the net, but IMO for that uplift in performance for that price, if you are looking at replacement more than a year away I would consider it in light of not wanting to replace the PC.

Keep in mind that the platform update listed above doesn't include OS licensure either. W11 ain't cheap.
