Question I've been struggling with my new build for a year now I need help

My computer crashes daily, sometimes more than five times a night. I believe the issue is that it becomes unstable with four sticks of RAM. I’ve gone days without any problems, but then it suddenly won’t stop crashing. It also seems like it retrains the RAM every time I boot up, though I’m not entirely sure.

I tried following some examples I found on Reddit about stabilizing four sticks, and I think it helped, but I couldn’t replicate their settings exactly because we have different hardware. I’d really appreciate some help troubleshooting this issue. I don’t have much experience or extra components to swap in and out for testing, so I’m looking for other strategies to stabilize four sticks of RAM. Here is my build:

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I believe the issue is that it becomes unstable with four sticks of RAM.
If you suspect the ram to be the issue, you might want to try and run the system with only 2 sticks of ram populating slots A2 and B2. See if that brings stability to your system. You can tax the system with daily tasks or memtest86(10 passes) or both.

What BIOS version are you currently on for your motherboard?

I realized that for the work I’m doing (3D and VFX), I needed more RAM, so I went with four DDR5 32GB sticks. However, when I built it, I didn’t know how challenging it would be to stabilize that setup. I came across some Reddit threads where I learned a trick: placing one set of sticks in Channel 1 and the other in Channel 2. This apparently "tricks" the system into thinking it’s using two large RAM sticks instead of four smaller ones—or at least that’s how I understand it.

I guess I could try just doing 2 to see if it ever crashes again just to make sure it's the 4 rams sticks that's the problem but, I'd still need to figure out how to get 4 sticks to work with my setup

I have read with AMD you can run into issues with buying 2 sticks and another 2 sticks separately you kinda need to buy 4 sticks in a pack ..

Not sure if this is the case with you ..

As ive only used 2 sticks ( mostly ive been using ITX or M-ATX boards since ) for the last few years but have been told i was quite lucky with my AM4 platform when i went from 2x8gb sticks and added another 2x8gb sticks a few months later with no issues !!

you have 2 diffrent kits even if its the same kit brand there sold in kits of 2 and 4 for a reason theres no garantee 2 kits of 2 will work.

however if you installed the kits

kit 1 in slots

1 and 2

and kit 2

in 3 and 4 that would explain disability. as there not running in there proper paired configuiration



remove sticks

2 and 3 and swap them round.

for duel channel to work

slot

1 and 3 should be same kit
2 and 4 should be second kit

by swapping 2 and 3 around this will fix it possibly.

if it doesnt then you need a kit of 4.

doesnt matter if your populating them all as long as the kits are kept in there pairs.

ram slots are in lanes

lane 1 is 2 and 4 slot same kit
lane 2 is 1 and 3 slot same kit

Double check the motherboard's User Guide/Manual for supported RAM and supported RAM configurations.

Very likely that the User Guide/Manual will direct to you to the manufacturer's website for more current information and updates.

Also: some motherboards require that the first physically installed RAM be placed in a specific slot - typically DIMMA2.

Details matter.

so then help me understand why everyone I see get it to work doesn't do that

set bios to default.

install kits correctly

turn on pc and allow it to boot am5 takes a few minutes to memory train ram.

also do not use xmp use AMD EXPO

according to the manual from what I can gather first kit must be installed in 2 and 4

once its memory trained that kit then you can install kit 2 in 1 and 3

then you can set expo in bios
