I currently have a Rtx 2060 i5 8400 system but I'm looking to upgrade as this PC can't really keep up with the games I'm trying to play (Alan Wake 2 for example). My 16 GB RAM is only 2666mhz as well.

I haven't been up to date with PC hardware for a while so I need suggestions on Graphics cards and CPUs for a decently high range PC. For the GPU I was looking at the 4070. But in terms of CPUs, I am out of the loop. I understand that Ryzen is a good option these days for the money side.

In terms of budget, I'm thinking of paying through finance, from a website like Scan which allows me to pay monthly. Nothing too crazy.

I want to keep my HDD and SSD's so are their any options where I can get a PC without an SSD to knock the uneeded cost down?

Any suggestions would be appreciated (Even links to pre-bulds would be great)

Amazon, Scan and Ebuyer do financing and I'm sure there's more. This gives you a rough idea of what you're looking at cost wise for a more up to date PC. The 120mm fan goes inside the back of that case for a rear exhaust fan.

Thanks for this list :)
I'm only playing on a 1080p monitor. I'll possibly look at 1440 in the future but it's not a priority at the moment.

If I were to change the gpu to rtx 4070, which model would u recommend me?

Apologies if i'm living up to my username with this question. Would the I5 12400F cause any bottlenecking with a 4070?

how long can u wait on the upgrade? the 4000 series refresh looks promising. the 4070 gets a nice bump in cuda cores.

if you plan on long term usage, i would suggest AM5. I would say get the new mobo cpu rams and wait for the 4070 super before upgrading the GPU.

So i would suggest something like this:

best cpu for gaming right now

Mobo with pcie 5.0 ssd support and next gen cpu compatibility

fast ssd comparable to samsung 980 pro

case with front panel type c

ATX 3.0 PSU with 16 pin power connector

You do know you will need to do a full reinstall of Windows and games/applications right? And you will have to buy a new copy of Windows.

IIRC if its an OEM license like with a laptop or prebuilt, the license cannot be transferred to the new PC.

but if the old license was a retail license, you can transfer it to a new PC. you would have to log in with your microsoft account and it would ask you to identify the old pc for the license transfer.

I'm not too fussed about the refresh, to be honest. This system is great but I'd hopefully be looking at maybe a bit cheaper. I wouldn't even mind a 4060 with maybe a slightly cheaper CPU than the one you listed here. I know it would be easier if I gave a budget but I'm trying to gauge my budget through suggestions first.

from the above list, you can downgrade to a Ryzen 7700 and get a new SSD later down the line. Reuse your existing case.

the 7700 is 296 quid. the mobo and ram are the cheapest options with the features i liseted (pcie 5.0 ssd support and 6000mhz cl30 ram kit) the same can be said for the PSU. cheapest 850W good ATX 3.0 psu with 16 pin power connector.

depending on your existing cpu cooler, you might even get a compatible AM5 mounting bracket.

the main reason for AM5 like i said before is for the long term cpu upgrade paths and pcie 5.0 ssd support.

if you are not bothered about ray tracing, i would suggest the 6750XT.

It does really depend on your budget, and what PSU you currently have whether an upgrade would make sense for you. I would not wait for the 4000 series refresh because while it will almost certainly bring more performance, it will probably be just as overpriced.

This would be a comparable intel system, however, Intel is at EOL for the socket. The 14000s from Intel are essentially the same as the 13000s:

You should absolutely not have a 4060 ti 16GB. I understand that you are trying to hit a certain price point, but you can do better with last gen AMD at the same price.

He was insistent on an Nvidia GPU above, my 3rd build is as I call it, "An ideal build... IMO..." I called the 4060 ti the minimum viable Nvidia product. Also that 16gb model is the same price as the 8gb cards right now, mind as well grab double the VRAM for the same price.

I didn't see the OP explicitly mention that they must have an Nvidia GPU. They did say that they wouldn't mind a 4060, but they never said they had to have an Nvidia GPU.

I really appreciate all the build suggestions. What would be the best AMD alternative GPU? I only insisted on an rtx because I've never once owned a radeon card and I've always just liked the Nvidia label.
