So as I said in the title, I’m looking to get a new cpu and can’t decide between the ryzen 7 or the ryzen 9.
I’ll mostly be playing video games but will also be doing some video capture of gameplay, and then some editing of said videos, but the gaming is the priority.

Now iv heard some weird things about the ryzen 9 being slower than the ryzen 7……is this true?

And if I can get the ryzen 9 7900x3d cheaper then the ryzen 7 7800x3d, should I get the ryzen 9 7900x3d?

Also just one more thing which motherboard would you recommend for these CPU’s budget for motherboard is £300/£400.

Thank you for your time. Muddy.

Get 7900x3d you will never regret it and get x motherboard so the cpu can work at full potential .remember to balance the pl1 pl2 and current limit so it does not get too hot and crash during benchmari

So why do I keep hearing that the ryzen 9 7900x3d is not as fast as the ryzen 7 7800x3d?
Isn’t it the better chip?

The Zen 4 X3D parts only have the extra cache on one CCD which means in the case of the 7900X3D when gaming you've got a 6 core CPU. The only advantage the 7900X3D has is in multithreaded workloads so if that isn't a priority it's a poor choice of CPU.

Does that mean the ryzen 7 7800x3d would perform better in games?
Given that it has 8 cores working instead of the 6 that the ryzen 9 7900x3d would have?
It’s wired that the higher chip has less working cores, despite having overall more.

Also I wanted to know, if I could get the ryzen 9 7900x3d for around the same price as the ryzen 7 7800x3d should I go for the ryzen 9 despite the performance hit when playing games?

Yes the 7800X3D will perform better in games, and it doesn't have to rely on software to accurately choose which CCD to run on as there is only one.

The 7900X3D does not make any sense to buy unless multithreaded applications are an important part of what you're doing. At that point though the 7950X3D would be the one to go with.

For the love of god, do not get the 7900x 3d. It functions as a 6core chip when it comes to gaming. Just don't. Grab the 7800x 3d, or if you need top gaming performance with good MT go for an Intel chip.
