Hello everybody.
I am writing from Italy.
I have an ATX PSU with various output cables including a 4-pin Molex which I think is for the mobo power supply.
But my micro ATX mobo has an 8-pin connector.
How do I go about solving this problem ?
Your help will be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot and best regards

Mobo: Asus Prime B364m k
PSU: Delta Electronics 350 w GPS-350EB-200 B
ram: Samsung DDR4 4Gb.
GPU PCIE card : (arriving) ASUS EN 8400 GS SCHEDA GRAFICA VIDEO SILENT PCI EXPRESS 512 MB GPU GRAPHICS CARD
CPU: Intel i5 8500
Case: HP ProDesk 400 G3 MT

The previous HP mobo had no standoffs and even if it had I don't understand how they can prevent a short since they are bronze (metal) and they must surely convey current to the case ?
The screw holes in the motherboard are isolated, and only the screw holes. All other parts and solder joints are not and cause a short when it touch the metal of the case.

Seems like the case is HP proprietary. That's why regular ATX specified motherboards don't fit.

I am sending you a picture where you can see that I insulated the bottom "rails" for the mobo with a doubler layer of insulating tape. Could this be enough ?
Install standoffs.

Can you show, what's under that tape?

Under that tape there is only some "rails", some lines that rise a little above the rest of the case's bottom The two rails have a few holes on them for the mobo's screws but only one fits my mobo. If necessary I can send you a picture but then I have to take the tape off. I cannot add standoffs otherwise the mobo will not fit the USB and VGA connectors into the holes that allow the connectors to show from outside so that they can be used.-

I know what the trouble is. I have done my reserch again and it turns out you were right: the PSDU I have, 350 W, is not enough so now I bought a 650 W one that will arrive within a few days. That should do the trick. Thank you.

I don't know SID, I just did some research and got that news. I told you, I am just trying to learn. Thanks a lot anyway. Then the short is still there ?
In the meantime, I managed to eliminate the short that came from the mobo's VGA and USB connectors touching their plate on the back of the case. See picture: View: https://imgur.com/T7rnHxo

What I think later will happen is that the PSU will also produce a short. I will see that later.
Latest news, I also managed to insulate the PSU although I think nobody applies this kind of arrangement. Anyway, later I will try the whole lot.

It doesn't work.
I am showing you hereunder a chat I found in the Net:
Querstion:
What psu do i need?
Motherboard:gigabyte b365m ds3h
Cpu:i5-9400f
Gpu: asus strix rx470
Ram:2x4gb ddr4 2400
2x fans 140mm

Answers:
Minimum PSU Recommendation: 450w

I have power supply of 500w but every time i enter in games like cs:go,warzone or others my screen turn of but pc remain open

Min I would recommend is the Corsair cx550m, for wattage and quality.

Doesn't seem, like you have replaced that PSU.
Please do not cut PSU cables. Use extensions, if necessary.

Why don't you replace pc case as well - to a standard mATX compatible model ?
(not some proprietary DELL/HP form factor, that's shorting out your motherboard).

BTW - what is this cable?
It doesn't seem to belong there.

That recommendation is for system with rx470 graphics card.
Do you plan to install rx470 in your pc as well?

I don't know what that is. I think it is usb connectors and audio connectors that lie at the front of the case. I just saw that that connector fitted that socket and I just inserted it there.

The case is not shorting the mobo: I did all the insulation work to avoid that. Even unplugging it, the PC does not work.

I removed it but the PC still dead.

What I noticed is that on one hand the mobo and the PSU are isolated from the case but unplugging all the cables (fans, etc) and inserting them one at a time, my tester shows that the mobo then is earthed. I don't understand.

Did you connect power switch cable (motherboard to power switch on pc case)?
Did you connect it properly/correctly?
I don't know about that. Kindly give me instructions. Thank you. There is a power switch on the case but the cable has a connector for which I cannot find proper socket.
lATEST NEWS: i BOUGHT A TWO PIN caBLE AND SWITCH, IT WILL ARRIVE mONDAY. iN THE MEANTME i INSERTED A TWO PIN Jumper (I think it is) but no result. The 2 pin socket where I put the jumper says CLRTC. I have been examining the mobo diagram online but I cannot see any power socket 2 pin. Could it be that I do not have a GPU graphic card inserted ?

That is proprietary front panel connector.
It doesn't go anywhere on a standard mATX board.

You'd have to find function of all pins manually, to connect properly to motherboard
power switch,
reset switch,
hdd led,
power led.
Can it be done? Sure.
But will take quite a lot of time to check all possible combinations and find their functions.

Just get a new pc case - compatible with your motherboard.
Your proprietary case is not so great , to try keeping it at all costs.

Why?
Do you understand, what that does?

Please read motherboard user manual.
And don't connect pins on random.

Put a screwdriver on the pwr+ and power- header and see what happens. Also test outside the case with the motherboard on a piece of cardboard. Only connect the neccassary to get into the motherboard BIOS. Motherboard, cpu, cpu cooler, 1 stick of RAM, GPU and the PSU.
