I played in DX11, DoF, and Tess enabled, max AA and AF, and PhysX ON - in 1920x1080, and I got 30-40 frames per second on average...with fraps. I swear it to God. The lowest it would go is 25 in intense shooting. I will make a video and show you - not that you don't believe me, I just think it's the damndest thing myself. I will post it on this thread later today - gotta run to Cincinatti real quick and see my doctor.

of all the games i have played lately its gotta be witcher 2. its dx9 only and will crumple all but the best dual gpu setups... crysis was dx10.1 but dint push the hardware as hard as witcher 2 did for dx9
i think if they used the dx11 api for things like dof and blur witcher 2 would have been a fair bit less demanding on the hardware. but they stuck with an outdated api because it ports easier.

No need, while "playable", I would never play at settings that would cause that low of FPS. I would get a bad case of motion sickness.

I don't think most people would want 25 FPS under heavy shooting. It takes away your aiming.

Yes, but keep in mind this was with fraps.

If you check my website - which is a link to my youtube channel - you will find the video I made of Metro 2033. It is using the settings I listed above, and in fraps.

As you will see, it is pretty smooth. I consider 35+ fps smooth, especially with fraps.

Crysis doesn't use PhysX and still kicks my system's ass worse than Metro 2033.

Also, I do overclock my GPU, which Metro 2033 seems very sensitive to. Crysis doesn't seem to budge with a GPU overclock.

Also, I used a 5770 before, and I ran Metro 2033 in very high, AA and AF set to minimum, PhysX off, in DX11 and in 1600x900 and got above 30 at all times. Crysis never went above 25, even with AA off. I think in 720p I got about 30fps in Crysis with a 5770.

My single 6970 kicks BF3's ass thoroughly. I play it totally maxed, AA maxed, and view distance maxed (90), in 1080p...and it never dips below 40fps - even in MP with stuff flying everywhere - usually hitting 60fps pretty consistently - but never more than 60fps as I use V-Sync.

I use the Natural Mod for Crysis and occasionally the Real Lifesis and Max Immersion Mods - but even Vanilla Crysis kicks my systems ass like no other. Ever time I get a new system or improve a system - I rush to install Crysis. And I have been disappointed time and time again.

THAT is why it kinda irked me earlier in arguing with those guys. I KNOW the most demanding game, because I have been kicked in the balls by it time and time again.

Well, I have both games, and I can max out Crysis (assuming you don't require x16 AA to consider maxed) easier than Metro 2033. It's your mods that are causing your Crysis experience to be much less. If you simply install Crysis and install the patches, it's much better than Metro 2033 is maxed out.

With vanilla Crysis I currently get around 40fps.

I did mention earlier that it is possible that Crysis is more Nvidia friendly than it is for AMD. From what I have seen, Nvidia is a lot better for running Crysis.

I have only ever used AMD. So I can't really speak for Nvidia.

But as far as AMD cards go, I am sorry I have to respectfully disagree with you and reinforce my opinion that Crysis is undoubtedly the most demanding, and by far.

I played both those games with AMD 6950's (I use 470's by swapping out from another comp because of 3D vision).

I found with Crysis, I'd get between 40-60 FPS. With Metro 2033, I'd get 20-60 FPS. While the average place in Metro 2033 will not require as much power as Crysis, mostly due to being in doors, in the more demanding areas, Metro 2033 is much more demanding.

I wouldn't know about that. I do remember playing Metro 2033 with my 5770 in DX11 and enjoying the hell out of it. Crysis has been one major headache after another for me. Crysis is a bitch for a lot of people, not just me. Metro 2033 is a wonderful game - I am thankful that it has always been smooth on my PCs for whatever reason. It seems you have had more trouble with Metro 2033 than I have.

I, on the other hand, have definitely had more trouble with Crysis.

+1 for Witcher 2 (for GPU stress). I forgot about that one...

Yea BF3 isnt very heavy on the PC.
although metro 2033 is demanding for MY PC but Crysis takes "demand" to a whole new level.

I still can't believe how utterly beautiful Crysis is for a game that old.

We are nearing 50+ months since the release of Crysis in all of it's system crushing glory.

In terms of sheer awe, I really don't think that any game has yet to look as good as Crysis. BF3 may have better textures; Metro 2033 may have better models; Crysis 2 may have better lighting. But, when all is said and done, I don't think any game can touch Crysis as a whole - it is just so beautiful in it's scope and size.

Back when I played Crysis all the time, I remember when I would be outside and seeing foilage - it would remind me of the game. No other game has blurred the line between unreal and real quite like Crysis.

I am currently playing Crysis with the Natural Mod - for improved lighting. That is all I really need. Crysis don't need mods. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Crysis is really the last of it's kind.

So tell me where can I get a intel i70 and Nvidia quadro 60000 like yours?
😛

I haven't played Shogun 2, but I have played Empire: Total War. It is very demanding. It is in the same league as Crysis - at least on my PC - although overall it isn't as demanding.

I can't max it, I know that. Or at least not lag free.

such misinformed pessimism... crysis badly coded? i guess you dont program.
metro best looking models? i guess you havent played lost planet 2. they really did push the boat out with tessellation and will crumple any sli setup.
bf3 textures aint that good. in parts it take 3 seconds to detect the lod distance and apply the correct texture. seriously in the sp, when your squad find an IAD under a car and you have to go disarm it. i followed the wires and when i go to the det box the walls were lowrez and as your reading this it went to medium then high... taking about 3 seconds total.
the reason they look better is they are made up of more layers, such as bump, hight, displacement and specular. which when lit make the textures more lifelike... which actualy means bf3 uses better lighting not textures.

on my system. i get maxed out 45+ on bf3, 25 on metro, 30 on crysis. but witcher 2 15 fps...
thats on a single card system runing at 3.6...
but the absolute killer of my system is arma 2, 7 fps when maxed out

so although your all clammering to be correct you have missed out some of the really demanding games because there not popular.

The Witcher 2 is not one I'd include, because minus 1 experimental AA setting, the game runs very smooth. Ubersampling takes the game from easily playable with everything else maxed to sludge.

That goes for a lot of games. Rift is an MMO that hasn't been mentioned either. You can set it to Ultra and run it with good FPS, but if you go into the advanced graphics options, there are many settings that will bring your system down to sub 5 FPS.

Funny you say that I don't program.

I am working on my bachelor's of science in software engineering as I write this. I program everyday.

And yes, Crysis was badly coded.
