[SOLVED] MSI G271 monitor support for 144hz over laptop HDMI ?

Hi guys!

I apologise for asking a basic question, but I couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere and hence asking it on this forum.
I have an Asus ROG Strix G531 with a HDMI port version 2.0b. The monitor I'm looking to buy is the MSI optix G271 and this has a HDMI 1.4b. The idea is to hookup my laptop to the monitor and use it for only display purpose.

The question I have is would my laptop be able to project 144hz at 1080p via the HDMI? Some users are facing an issue where the max refresh rate is capped at 120hz.
Additionally, my laptop display refresh rate is 60hz. (I know this is of no significance, but putting this out there anyways)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

This thread might be of use to you(and the community). I'd ask you to borrow a know 144Hz panel that operates off of HDMI or at the very least take the laptop to a display center to see if you can indeed get 144Hz out of that laptop. I was looking through Asus's support site;

came across the 4 models, which lead me to wonder which SKU you have at hand...?

The HDMI interface allows 144 Hz at 1080p. Laptops are sometimes limited to 120 Hz over HDMI at 1080p due to limitations of the Intel HD graphics (even if the laptop has a discrete GPU).
