Hi, I've been having a lot of problems lately that I'm not sure how to fix. I have recently installed some new RAM so that could be a cause of the problem but a full Memtest86 found no problems. These are all the problems I seem to have been having since I installed the RAM:

  • System doesn't shut down. I hit shut down, screens go dark but the PC continues running.
  • Freezing at boot. This is occasional but sometimes freezes at boot.
  • Both World of Warcraft and Gunfire Reborn games seem to be crashing with exception errors as of late. Not too often but enough to be irritating.
  • CSGO is freezing once I load into a game, just completely frozen despite sound seeming to still be there.
  • BSOD. Has only happened once, happened tonight.
Obviously this makes me think my RAM might be the problem but it's new (I know this doesn't mean much) and I got no fails on the Memtest86. Perhaps there's more I should be checking there? I have another thread involving the OC of my RAM that shows the hassle I had of that. Another thought that crossed my mind was the PSU. Just from some other posts I've seen and due to my task manager putting a High or Very High power usage and/or power usage trend next to anything taxing like games.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
RAM
32.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1799MHz (16-19-19-39) --- Not sure why it says 1799, maybe cus that's factory. I'm running with G.SKILL 32GB DDR4 PC4-28800 3600MHz Ripjaws V for Intel CL16 (16-19-19-39) Dual Channel kit (2x16GB) Black. Running at 3600mhz currently, I manually set FCLK or whatever it's called to half the RAM, so 1800. That's another change I just made today to try fix the shutdown and booting problems

I've not seen any problems with temperatures, nothing strange there from what I can tell. I did run an sfc scannow and DISM after my CSGO crashes tonight. Scannow said it fixed some things but a bit later, after a PC restart to ensure things, I got the BSOD. The Memory access violations causing my games to crash, PC not shutting down and boot problems are the most common problems lately. Happy to get stuff from the BSOD error if that helps, will post some of what I seen below.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x0000000000061941, 0x000000000343bba0, 0x000000000000001d, 0xfffffd0315795b00). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 1d060a6c-fd00-4bd0-bb37-9e955721f7f9.

If I can provide or do anything else that helps me track down the source of these problems, just let me know.

Solution
Very good chance that this is the FCLK.
FYI, not all CPU's are born equal, not all can run higher FCLK clocks reliably, but a fair amount of this is down to the motherboard, and BIOS version.

Mine for example is a bit flaky at 1900Mhz, and the RAM won't run at CL14 at 1866, so 1800 FCLK at CL14 timings it is as that is a fair bit faster.

If this is the situation with you, you would be better off running at 1600 FCLK and tweaking the RAM timings down to CL14 (if you can) as in reality the performance difference between CL14 @ 3200 MHz and CL16 @ 3600Mhz is identical overall.

Save your current BIOS/UEFI settings, reset your BIOS/UEFI to system defaults (make sure that the boot sequence is correct) and see what happens.

If the problem goes away, it is a BIOS/UEFI setting(s), if you have the same problem it is likely the RAM, put the old RAM in and see what happens.

As for the 1799MHz, this also applies to the odd CPU frequencies, the clock speeds are not perfect to the MHz, mine is running at 1696.6MHz.

It says 1799 since ddr means double data rate memory (1800mhz x 2 = 3600mhz ), you have nothing to worry about there, your ram is runnig at 3600mhz.
Have you upgraded your ram or did you buy a new kit to replace the old one?
Is there a difference between upgrading and buying a new kit? But yeah, I bought new RAM sticks to replace the existing ones. The old ones are no longer kicking about

I'll give this a go. My current bios settings are just the default with XMP turned on currently and I manually set the FLCK.

So with XMP off and defaults running, all the boot problems seem to be gone. They did exist before I set the FCLK though. I suck at manually chaning RAM timings but I can try a lower FCLK and also set the RAM to 3200 or summing if needed.
My crashes in games all seem to be related to my kernalbase.dll from what I can tell. Not sure how to solve that one. Upgrade didn't work, scannow and DISM solved nothing too and updating to 20H2 update for Windows didn't seem to solve it either.
