Need Help Getting Computer to Recognize Hard Drive

Hello,
I just put together a new computer. I-7 cpu on a MSI Z77A-GD55 board with both a solid state and a standard disk drive Western Digital Black Caviar 1 terabyte hard drive with Windows 7 installed. I set the solid state drive (sandisk 120 gb) as the primary drive. The issue is, although bios and windows recognizes the disk drive I cannot write to it. It originally was plugged into the 6 gb sata plug but I switched it in an attempt to get the computer to recognize it which it did. I can find it in the device manager which indicates it is at Location 0, Channel 3 Target 0 Lun 0 and the Device Manager indicates it is working but I can't save to it. Any ideas as to how to get the computer to recognize it so I can write to it?
