Thanks again for the information. I'm sure the biggest question right now for most people is whether or not the C55 provides any significant benefits over the C19, other than scalability. Overclocking is a concern for some users, and not so much for others. Personally, I would consider it a good feeling knowing that I have the option to extract the full potential from my new X6800, however, I don't consider it my first priority at the moment. Although assumptions can be made based on other currently-available motherboards that share the chipset, I feel it would be best to wait for the P5N32-SLI Premium, simply to see just how well it lives up to its currently-assumed potential of being an inferior board. Until then, most data remains at least partial speculation. My current intention is to purchase the P5N32-SLI Premium regardless, and then consider my migration options later.

Yeh im thinkin of getting it as soon as its available aswell.
I think it will be good enough for my needs. I dont plan on OCing until my E6600 falls behind everything else which should b a year or 2 down teh track. Then if the P5N32 premium with teh c19 cant handle it, i'll get a new mobo and probably a new CPU anyway. AUS$1000 upgrade in a year or 2 wont bother me seeing as im spending $3500 now on building this machine from scratch.

CANT WAIT NE LONGER. I just got my tax money and i wanna spend it!!!! bring on the premium ffs!!!

BTW
the P5N32 says its got 7.1 sound??
does this mean ill hae surround capabilities without a soundcard?
i was just going to get a creative 5.1 soundblaster. but if the mobo has onboard 7.1 then theres no need to get a sound card is there? or should i?

ive got 5.1 headphones.

front/centre/rear speakers + a sub in each ear
3 jacks + mic

will that work to its full potential on teh onbaord sound? or at elast as good as a $35 5.1 card would work??? im not spending 500$ on a really good card or nething i dont need it.

Specificly its for a game called counter-strike source. I've played it for 8 years and im quite competitive on it and play in comps for $$$. Sound plays a major role in teh game.

Who's going to be the first one to call me an asshole after this post?

Seems like this thread has gone south. I have been away for a number of days, and I return to find a number of new pages of unread posts. As I read through them, I notice that very few actually follow the topic of the post. It seems that this thread has degraded to a large amount of system builders each asking what motherboard will work for what hardware. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this thread was created in the spirit of tracking the Asus P5N32-SLI motherboard with the nForce 590 chipset. I find it odd that I feel that I must state the entire name of the board, incase readers do not know what I am talking about. It would seem natural to me that, due to the spirit of the post title, this thread would remain on the topic of the board, and acceptable offshoots of it. I do not feel it right to crucify people for getting off topic, though I feel we have lost our focus.

I remain unsure how many of this thread's regulars still remain, but we have a vision, let us strive for VICTORY! It also seems more effective for all of the "Wait, so I want this motherboard now? Will it work with my graphics card? And what kind of memory should I buy?" posts to start themselves over as new threads in the hardware section? Would it not merely be more effective?

Am I entirely off base?

.:EDIT:.

To simplify, is this a good place to find information regarding this board, or should I take myself elsewhere?

jesus mate wats it bloody matter.
not like theres ne breaking news on the board.
when it comes out you're not gunna miss it so stop stressin.

Yes, I agree. If you find yourself trying to discuss a motherboard with a chipset unrelated to the nForce 590, or some piece of hardware that is not a core component related to an nForce 590 motherboard, you are off topic. You would benefit yourself by taking such discussions to other threads; your questions would be answered there. The current focus of this thread must remain the nForce 590 chipset, availability of motherboards with this chipset, and now, details regarding new NVIDIA chipsets such as the C55. If you disagree or do not care, disregard this post, and there is no need to justify your opinion.

In other news... well, I haven't found any.

I spoke to a Lady on the Customer Help line of SCAN (about changing some delivery details for this board as i am soon to move away to uni) and she says they are expecting a delivery of these board in on the 14th of september and she expects them to be dispatched the same day for a froday the 15th delivery estimate, however she would expect them to arrive untill the following monday (18th september)

I still dont know... my question stills in my head. Should I spend $300 on the 590 Premium? Because Im not an overclocker but according to the little there is on the C55, they say the words MANY IMPROVEMENTS OVER C19 which makes me ask the same question again and again!

Dude here's my opinion, I don't think it's a bad one. This goes to all peeps having second thoughts for the reason of something better coming out down the road...

We all know technology moves very fast, very very fast. We are all consumers, and we all want the best. Some are informed consumers, who are in the know, but very few people fall into this category. This thread/post/forum finds many consumers who are attempting to land themselves in the know, and are trying very hard to do so. We all want the best product for our money.

Seems like the people who own the companies are going to gift us all with lots of new products in the near future. We've got windoze Vista for one, DirectX10, new chipsets, and by the time that technology starts coming out, we will have new processors.

I think the question is what will last the longest? Would it be smarter to buy the Conroes and hope that they keep step with what comes next? Or save the money and keep it for the Kentsfields? (I dunno if that's what might be next, but I read it as such.) Do you buy a 7900GX2 or wait for the dX10 cards to arrive?

I think it's all up to you, with the money. The market will always provide new technology, you might not always have money, so if you want something, get it, don't wait too long for the next thing. I just recommend that you do your reading, learn as much as you can about the intricacies of the hardware/software that you are considering, and try your best to be in the know. When you know everything about your current piece of hardware, you will know right away how much better the newer equipment is, if at all.

Be informed consumers, people, and don't hesitate when it comes to learning everything you can about the current technology, not just how it could affect you.

In other news...

I'm going to go check out the new product manual you speak of (or the duplicate, I shall find out.) I'm also going to keep searching for reviews and news, maybe some more retailers that carry it. And yes, it would be cool if a SKU# could be located. From what I know of the inner workings of stores, this would help us out. Have vigilance!

Exactly, but like I said, those words "Many mistakes improved" makes me feel like if I spend $300 now, I will want to spend another $300 or maybe more in 3-4 months just because I couldnt make the right decision.

I think I will just get all my computer parts first, I will make the motherboard my last choice.

I read at some places that you are supposed to pick the motherboard first, so you can plan the system around the core component. All the hardware talks through the motherboard, so by planning the build around the mobo, you eliminate many hardware bottlenecks by planning around solid hardware.

In other places I read that you should buy the motherboard last, so you can get all of your core components set up first without having to deal with compatibility issues and such. If you buy it last, you know what you need it to do, and that narrows down your choices and makes it easier.

I personally think it depends on how serious you are about the build. If you are a heavy tweaker or overclocker, or just a serious power user, you should get the motherboard first. Your first aim should be to get the system running as smoothly as possible with no bottlenecks and no snags to hold you back. From there you add the processor, which determines RAM, which can both determine GPU.

If you want to go the other route, you can get the motherboard last so you are not faced with as many choices. Some say the motherboard is the most important component, others say it is the least important. I know that when I get to my building, I am building from the board out. Even if I don't buy the board first, I am going to know what it is and get the other parts because of the mobo.

It's really up to you, as seems to be everything I have said recently. The nature of the market is such to release products and then release better projects. I promise you, Asus has the power to release a board that is godly, un-rivaled in any competition, completely sweet in every way. They don't because as soon as they do, everyone buys it and they have nothing left to sell. This cycle will never change, I fear, and we will always be stuck with products that are new and spottish until the next generation comes out. It's an eternal waiting game, or a question of gambling on a horse that has a few defects. That's why I recommend learning as much as possible about the horses out there so you can spend your chips on the one with the least defects.

All this talk of C19's and C55's..its all going right over my head...infact it makes me wonder how on earth i built the computer im using right now :S

I for one have always been a beliver that its best to start at the bottom and work my way up (motherboard first in other words) and thats what ive done...however ive bought all the other parts while i was waiting....ok not knowing how they all work with one another (lets just hope it doesn't all blow up) Would be nice to have a bit more information (reviews) on this board, but at the end of the day, i wouldn't really know where to start with overclocking. Have a tiny fear...almost like drinking too much alcohol and being sick....that if i overclock, im really going to damage an expensive component.

Knowledge is key. The more you know about a subject of overclocking, the less there is unknown. The more you know, the more you are in familar territory when you begin. The more you get drunk, the more you know how much to drink 😛. Experience is like a lantern that sheds light ahead of us, or something like that.

Is there any point in waitinf for the 590 if i only plan on ever running a single GFX card???

does teh 590 chipset only exceed other boards whilst in SLI? or is it better in other ways aswell?

In the next couple of days when I am able to find some time, I hope to loosely price an Intel 975X chipset board system vs an nForce 590 board. I also need to look at the feature lists availible on the 975X chipsets to find out what sorta stuff they are offering on the side. Who knows, the only thing we seem to be certain about is the fact that we need more reviews on the nForce 5 P5N32-SLI boards.

I fried my router last night, so I need to get a new one as well. :x

Dude, it depends on how you are using the board, with what other hardware you are using it, and about five other things. Don't ask what, and don't give me a list of your hardware asking the same question again. No one knows how the P5N32-SLI 590 board performs yet, because it is not on the market and no one has used it. I would recommend that you make a new post in the motherboard forum with your hardware, and ask someone to recommend you a motherboard. Please do not do it in this thread, we (or atleast I) cannot tell you how the 590 is going to work yet. You have to wait and see, like we are.

Thank you.

I've been watching this thread since it started. but have been pretty quiet since I haven't had anything to say. Figured I'd introduce myself and show my support for this motherboard most of us are waiting for.

I initially wanted to build a new system for myself and my father in June. Back then I was looking at the AMD's with the new AM2 chips that were coming out. I tend to not follow PC hardware until I actually intend to do an upgrade. After doing some more research, I found out about the new Intel Conroe chips and how they completely blew the AMD chips away for gaming. I'm not an overclocker, so my primary concern was gaming performance out of the box.

I decided to wait on the upgrades to see how much better the Conroe would be, and I am glad I waited. Looks like an awesome chip for the price. After I knew what chip I wanted, I started looking into video cards. This was around late July, so DX10 cards weren't on my list. I got really interested in the nVidia GX7950's, but was a little concerned that the only official support for these cards was on the nForce4 chipset. I read that there were some hacky drivers out there to have them work with intel 975's, but I tend to be cautious and like going with official stuff.

After some more research, I heard about the awesome looking nForce5 series and how there would be a version put out to support the new intel chips. Yay! It seemed like the perfect fit for me. I wanted the 7950 video card and Conroe chip, so the nForce5 chipset was an awesome match for those. I also wanted a board that could support quad-sli if I decided to upgrade one of my video cards (I wanted to build 2 machines, identical to one another, so one GX7950 in each). For example, if I decided to get a DX10 card for myself later on down the line, I would like to pop that spare 7950 into the other machine so it could have some quad-sli action. From what I read, the board would be able to do it later on with better driver support. Sounded perfect so far.

Now that I knew what hardware I wanted, I started digging to find which manufacturer I would go with and when these boards would come out. This was around early August. That's when I found this thread and started following it on a daily basis. The manufacturer of the board didn't matter too much to me since I don't care to overclock and most of the stock features look similar between the manufacturers.

So, that's my story thus far. I am intently waiting for any nForce5 board to come out that supports the Conroe chip, and the Asus board is the top one of my list. As soon as it comes out, I'm going to order it. Been waiting to upgrade my system since June, and I can't wait for the C55 stuff that people have been discussing.

Here's the thing that I find puzzling. If this board is supposedly nearing release, why haven't we seen any previews of it on the major hardware sites? Normally, I thought the motherboard manufacturers like to send their evaluation hardware to the review sites so they can generate some hype before release? My only theory on this is that Asus is milking the clock and trying to work out some kinks before they send out their preview boards...which is also a little disturbing.

I could be wrong in my thinking since most of this knowledge has been inferred from what I've seen.

I like the idea of building two identical computers and throwing the extra 7950 into the other machine when you upgrade graphics cards. 😀 You may have a point, I have not seen any production board releases either. I'm wondering if maybe they are going to just release it, and let people say what they want. It seems that people contact Asus or get an official number from them as for release, but then that day comes, and it's "the end of the week" or something like that. Well, the ninth has come and gone, now it looks like we are waiting for the 15th, and if that doesn't happen, the 25th or something, or maybe next month... :?

I just blew my cash on a laptop, so it's going to be a few weeks before I can start thinking of a Core2Duo buid, but when I do, this board is going to remain under close scrutiny. Not only by myself, I would presume, as it seems many others are waiting a few weeks. When the E6300 Conroes came out, they were like 250USD or something, if I remember, and now they are down to 185USD. I like the price fluctuations when they are in my favor.

It seems that where we differ, is overclocking. I am not a hardcore overclocker and I would merely be "performance tweaking" my CPU to get a little more out of it and have some fun experimenting, but when the machine starts to get outdated, I will probably tweak it up as much as I can. Overclocking isn't a deciding factor for me or anything, but it's a bonus I would enjoy having in the bag of features. I'm not sure if I am going to let it bother me if the board returns poor OCing results, but it will be somewhat of a let down.

.:EDIT:.

Wow, that post said a whole lot of nothing. Lots of my opinions, which I wouldn't care to read if I was not myself, and a bit of speculation that any red-assed baboon could do. I'm leaving it because it represents ten minutes of my time though.

well people like me still like to read it.
I'm new to building PC's and i like "people in teh know" opinions on these matters.

but then im probably the only noob here 😉
