Well a good note from that article is that "availablilty is not a problem for Dell" So they are becoming available. As long as something comes out within August I'll be happy.

if you can run crossfire on an nVidia board, shouldn't they drop the "SLI" from the name? And could you send the link for that? I find it hard seeing Nvidia allowing for ATI to throw themselves into nVidia based boards. That's almost like saying, AMD will fit in an Intel Socket! 8O

Well, I guess they're still nVidia, so having SLI on there is their way of nudging you to go the way of SLI. But really, when you think about it, it's pretty smart, because if someone makes their mind up they want to go with crossfire, then nVidia is already out the money for the video cards, so why should they also guarantee themselves being out the money for the motherboard too? If that someone has their heart set on crossfire, even if they like the nForce chipset better than, say, the 975X, they'll be forced to go with the 975. The way nVidia is doing it now, everyone can mix and match, so now the person with their heart set on crossfire can still give some of their money to nVidia, and I would think it would get them more business... but yes, I agree with you that at first glance it does seem odd. When you think about it tho, it's really smart, to me anyway. Here's the link to the main , and here's a link to the page where I found the bit about crossfire and sli.

I think they actually meant that before nForce 590 comes out you can only build a dual graphics system based on CF and Intel's 975 chipset. When nForce finally becomes available we will have a choice to go for CF with Intel, or SLI and nForce 590.

Hi, Nvidia specification for 500 intel

Have a look at the link above. I noticed that the 'DDR2 Memory (MHz)' for both the 570 and 590 have 667mhz memory? Should this be 800mhz for at least the 590? I was planning buying the Cosair pc6400 CL4 epp that runs at 800mhz. Would this be suitable?

Thanks,
Lee.

Really?? I guess maybe I read it wrong.... well I guess that shoots down our whole conversation if it's true, haha. And it changes my perspective a bit on the 590, because if it could have both, then it was definitely better than the 975 IMO, but now it would at least be easier for me to swallow if I end up having to go with the 975X.

Paul, let us know if the Asus president emails u back! :) Thanks!

Dell.dk is shipping XPS 700 Core 2 Duo X6800 Extreme and Nvidia 590 SLI and in the spec is that

Perfekt synsoplevelse

translating from danish the last part:
you'll be amazing over XPS 700 graphics frame, that are supported by one or two cards from Nvidia or ATI

my interpretaion is that
you can choose ATI cards or Nvidia cards

hmmm, well I don't know then... what I do know is that i'm running out of time to build my system, cause college is going to start and I really don't want to do it then. I have most of the parts here, but I'm waiting on the X6800, so if the 590 chipset isn't out soon, even tho I really don't want to, i'll be forced to go with the 975X.

No reply yet, probably will have to wait till Monday. sigh...

Hey Zpert where are you from/go to school. I was trying to build my system before school too. Who knows if that will happen. lol

Paul 2

Ok, well I got sick of waiting, so I ordered an Asus P5W-DH Deluxe 975X motherboard. See, the way I see it, I could wait for nForce 590, but it's not a new core logic, so it won't be that big of a performance increase. The performance will be pretty much the same as the 975X, and the features will be nice, but it will probably still run a little hot. I'm not going to run SLI now anyway, since i just ordered my EVGA Geforce 7950GX2, and when the new DX10 cards come out, if they come out within 90 days, I can use EVGA's step-up program to trade in my 7950 and pay the difference in cards. Now the only thing I have to wait for is my processor to ship, and that will be soon. I just got sick of waiting on nVidia and the motherboard companies, and wanted to start building now. This way, I can get everything ready for my X6800!

Paul, I'm from North Dakota, and go to college at Minot State University... I'll be done in December with my bachelors in math and computer science. Then I'm not sure what's after that, might get my masters, maybe in forensics, which would be cool, that stuff really interests me. How about you, where are you from and where do you go to school?
-Paul

Hey sorry to hear you're going ahead with the Intel board. Understandable though. I don't want to wait either, but I'll give it a few more weeks.

I'm from Ohio and go to Kent State University. I'll be graduating in May with a Bachleor's in Science of Nursing. So RN BSN. I was just wondering if you were close by lol, this is my first build so I was hoping to have someone with experience in the area lol. Oh well. Where are you getting your x6800 from Tiger Direct? Only place I've seen them for sale.

Paul 2

Ya, I wanted to wait and make the comparison when the 590 came out, to see the benchmarks, but it's just not enough features for me to wait. I got my X6800 from Bestbuy for Business, hahah. A weird place to get it, but I searched, and at the time, they were the ones who seemed to have it shipping the soonest, and it was one of the least expensive ones... and I think they're out of stock now, so I'm glad I ordered when I could. When does TigerDirect ship, cause I'm still waiting for bestbuy to get them in?

haha, ya, it's a little too far away to help u in person, sorry :) if it were real close I'd be happy to help u. You'll have a lot of fun on your first build, and you have more patience than I had the first time I built mine. I definitely regretted not doing more research last time... This time took me about a month to research every part. Here's my list for my dream computer right now... I have most of the parts already: Samsung Syncmaster 244T, Antec P180, OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU, Core 2 Extreme X6800, Asus P5W-DH Deluxe, Mushkin Redline XP28000 DDR21000 RAM, EVGA GeForce 7950GX2, Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card, Scythe Mine heatsink, 2 Western Digital WD1500 150GB Raptors, Plextor PX-760SA 18X sata DVD+-RW, Microsoft natural ergo keyboard 4000, Logitech G7 2000dpi gaming mouse, Logitech Z-5500 speakers, and last but not least, for cooling, 6 Yate Loon silent 120mm fans. I cannot wait to get this thing up and running!!
-Paul

I have no choice but to wait for the nforce 590. I want to have the best overclocking features along with the most stable SLI. Since I already have my 2 7900GTs, going non-SLI would be quite a waste. I've accepted that I probably won't be able to finish my new system until I get back to college, but oh well. At least by the time the 590 does hit retail, conroes may be a little cheaper.

USD to date?

Everything I wrote, plus some fan mounts, arctic silver 5, arctic silver Arcticlean, and a CyberPower 900W Battery Backup, cost 5268.77 US Dollars... not bad at all considering this is pretty much the extreme of extremes(actually that would be 2 GX2s in quad-SLI, but that doesn't even help on anything but F.E.A.R. anyway, and by the time it will help on games, DX10 will be out, so it won't fully work anyway. Check this Falcon Northwest computer out; It's not as good as mine and it costs almost 3000 USD more!! Once I overclock my 7950GX2 the video will be equal to or better than theirs, and they don't even tell you what brand of RAM you'll get. And what's up with a 2000$ 20in. widescreen monitor?? haha, I love building my own.

Looks like a nice setup there Paul. I've heard alot about the mushkin ram on these boards, but never heard of it previously. Anything in specific that makes it better? Just curious as I've always thought "Corsair" was the Ram to get. I'll probably be using only one raptor as budget constraints have to go somewhere. I blew a lot of my funds into the monitor sooo lol. but I only have an 80gb HD right now so 150 10k rpm should be good enough for me right now. Post some pictures of your finished build!!

Thanks! I actually forgot to subtract the 235$ worth of rebates I'm sending in, so it comes to $5033.57 US Dollars for SupremeLaw.

Well you can't really go wrong right now with Corsair PC8500, OCZ PC8000 XTC, or the Mushkin Redline I got... you can see if u want what made my decision from this Anandtech review. See, all memory out right now actually slows down when u get it to the highest it can go, like over 1100, compared to 1067 or around that, probably because of heat and timings. So, when I compared the 3, I knew they could all OC very well, and easily reach 1067. I just had to compare the timings and voltages. As u can see, the OCZ's timings/voltage at 1067 was 4-4-5-14 @ 2.3V, the Corsair at 1067 had a little better timings at lower voltage, with 4-4-4-14 @ 2.2V. Finally, what made my decision in the end, was the surprising Mushkin with 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2V. The timings/voltage down the line was the best, so I went with it. They're a big name in memory tho, I'm surprised u haven't heard of them. I don't know the difference these timings will make, but it was cheaper than the OCZ and Corsair, so I couldn't really go wrong.

Ya, the budget can be a pain, but one 150GB raptor will do you great until(if) you want to get another one later....what monitor did u get??

About the pictures... all my parts should be here this week, except I don't know when the X6800 ships, but u can bet I'll be posting a pic of the finished build for u guys! I'm hoping to take pics as I build as well, the more the better for me, since this is my first build actually knowing what I'm doing, haha. I'll put the best pics up here, but be patient with me if college starts and I don't have it built yet, cause while it will be a top priority, my free time instantly goes down a lot, as u know, you're in the same situation. But I'll get the pics up eventually.
-Paul

Well my basis for the memory was that I wanted to go with something with EPP. I'm too much of a newbie to be ocing anything right away, so I figured it'd be good to start with that.

The monitor I got is a Dell 2407WPS (24" WS). I think I went too big though. I was measuring it out, and it's a heck of a lot bigger than I orginally though lol.

I'm also thinking about getting two 74 gb raptors and raiding them and maybe add on a $100ish seagate or WD for extra space.
I'm picking up my power supply from pc power and cooling, they have a new line of ultra quiet psu's for a good price. 750w for 199.99 and from PC P&C you can't beat that. For my video card I was going to go with 7950 gx2 but I might just tune down to the 7900 gtx for now. That way I can always add one later. Im going to go with the E6700 (for budget reasons lol) with a zalman cns9500.

I'm not sure on an optical drive though. Just need a basic DVD burner. The one thing I have to set straight is the whole IDE, E-IDE, ATAPI stuff. Not real familiar what I'm exactly looking for their.

And all of this is going in a Thermaltake Armor case. Im going with the g5 mouse. I have a logitech wireless mouse now mx-something lol and It's great, but I forget to charge it a lot lol. Im also going with the same keyboard you stated, I've heard a lot of good thing about it.

Oh and another question. Where are you buying your parts at. I've looked at tigerdirect, newegg and zipzoomfly.

Paul

I got this mail from taiwan support center cos i wanted to know what they know there.

"
Sorry sir, till now no such information available,

seems desginer will delay for sometime on NF5 590 IE .

Thank you for using ASUS products and services!

Hi Paul
was wondering to built my sys on what you have no copyrigth fees LoL
got a question
are you sure that asus mobo supports Mushkin Redline XP28000 DDR21000 RAM

thx

hahah, no I won't charge u :) Well I don't know of any motherboard that officially supports DDR2 1067, but these high end motherboards can definitely take this RAM. I still need to read on all the tricks and ways to overclock exactly how I want to, since there are many things to change in the BIOS in order to tweak everything. Take a look at the test setup here at Anandtech. They used Corsair PC8500 RAM with the Asus mobo, just to show you proof that it works. The trick is getting the memory to the speed and timings you want while getting your processor to the speed you want, and from what I know (again, I need to update myself cause it's been a couple years) you want to overclock the front side bus as high as possible, and mess with the multiplier only when u have to, since the bus speed is the speed of the memory as well. I don't want to explain it too much because I'm not confident enough until I read more that I would be right if I explained in more detail :)

Glad I could help u pick out some parts tho, haha, good luck with it.

The OC performance of nF 590 IE won't be anywhere near 975X or i965P.
It'll be around 10% better than current nF4 SLI 16X IE (according to nVidia) which results in around 320Mhz at best. 965Ps are already reaching beyond 440Mhz and 975X at 400Mhz+.

SLI is so not worth it. A single 7900GTX 512MB or X1950XT/X1900XTX is more than enough.

SLI is worth it if you find the right deals. I was able to get both 7900GTs for around the same price as the X1900XTX, and at higher resolutions the SLI setup will pretty much always beat out a single X1900XTX. Like I said, I already have both cards, so it would be a waste to just drop one and take a 975X. We'll see how the 590s stack up against current mobos. Even if they perform slightly worse than the intel boards, they may also be quite a bit cheaper.

Hi,

Check this out, 18 page Nvidia 590 SLI preview, just found this today.

Hope this helps you guys.

Thanks,
Lee.

:-\

the fact that they are still only sending out unfinished engineering reference boards is not a good sign to me 🙁

we're looking at at least another 2-3 weeks before we see anything.. and even then i'll bet the demand is almost as bad as core 2s have been

sigh..

I'm going to place my E6400 in a hole in the wall sealed with glass with a big sign that says:

DO NOT BREAK GLASS UNTIL NVIDIA 590 IS RELEASED
