Hey Labbbby! Didn't I just see you on the DFI post thread?? LOL Or Am I still getting old??

I agree, the P5N32-E is a much better buy! I haven't seen many reviews on it though. That would use a different BIOS right? The EVGA still seems to be getting the best reviews, but that RAID problem is bothering me.

If it came down to it, which one do you like better, the evga or the P5N32-E?? I've have seen the P5N32-E as low(around)$250.00 but you have to catch it in stock.

If ya get a chance, I have a question over in the DVD burner area! Any input?? LOL

Thanks!

Yes.
I also have been holding off. Can't make up my mind on which 680i board I want. I want the 680i mostly because of the features and speed, not necessarily for immediate SLI.

I am now even considering going back to a P965 or X975 board.
Storage is important.

What's the issue with the eVGA and RAID? I actually thought the eVGA was more stable than the Striker. I can't wait for Asus to release a new bios...who knows when.

At the moment I put my bets on the ABIT board.
Has all the features and some bling to it as well.

On another note I might just wait 2 morte weeks.
I have seen some webstores starting to offer the STRIKER for about $315....that's $100 off what Newegg charges right now.
They will offer it as of the 12/12.

Just one question:
I consider myself pretty savvy with PC's, have built some and so on over the years.
I am not experienced however with overclocking and BIOS issues.
The STRIKER scares me a bit if it doesn't recognize the components directly out of the box.
I want a future proof board and maybe SLOWLY approach some mild oc'ing

Planning on getting some high end Corsair Dominator with it. Not sure if I get the PC

Everyone says it is not a board for beginners. I am not sure if I get the Dominator PC2 8500, 8888 or 9136 with it. I want the EPP feature and a memory that runs up to the 1066MHZ. Any other good solid RAm suggestions that will work right out of the box?

Really worried that I spent $1000 on board and RAM and then I don't get it to work or have it severely under perform because I need to mess with timings and voltage first, which scares me a bit.

Any comments?

The thing about the 680i chipset boards are that they are upgradable to quad core should you want to do that in a year or three!

As for the ram question.... most of the motherboard company websites have a link to ram that is approved for that motherboard.

As for being a beginner over clocker, from what I understand the software that comes with the asus boards is a love it or hate for over clockers. I've heard that it makes it pretty easy for a beginner but that people who want to do it their way do not like it!

The Abit board sounds nice but I've heard so many release dates I'm not sure what to believe! I've heard anywhere from Dec 15th to Feb 07.

Thanks....yes the Quad Core....I think I will get the Conroe x6800 or the x6700 (the big $$ question) now and then wait for Quad Core in 2 years. The Quad runs very hot I hear....the last thing I need. On top of it they are still charging close the $1400 for it....and that's crazy.....I am willing to shell out a lot....the Dual Core Duo Extreme isn't cheap either but from what I read it is really fast.....significantly over the 6700.

I am carefully building a new rig right now and I am spending quality time on it, wiring etc.....I want the pretty much the bes out there.

The Quad by the way also works in the 965 and 975 boards......They now adjusted the DDR2 RAM speed to 800 Mhz on these boards as well.

They are proven and good boards with better storage options (ICH 7/8).
This motherboard thing drives me nuts.....

Anyway.....I will wait a few weeks longer but after xmas or early Jan I need to decide or I never will.

Anything?? Anyone??
I think I have pretty much decided to go with the ASUS P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i SLI board. The evga board scares me with some of the SATA problems where raid setups are concerned. The price has dropped to around $250 for the asus board.

Good for you, I still have not decided on the MOBO.
I will end up needing 7 SATA ports and the 680i gives you six.
I have an PCI SATA 3GB add on card, but I really wanted to keep that PCI slot open for other stuff.
I am having the most difficult time to decide on the MOBO & RAM.
At the moment I think I will wait 3-4 weeks ans see what ABIT and GIGABYTE come up with.
By the way the STRIKER price will drop this week, as other e-retailers are receiving the boards as well. I saw a pre-order for $315.-

Is the BIOS of the P5n32-E SLI identical to the STRIKER? The ASUS bios scares me. What RAM are you getting?

Hey mcparty thats a great board. BTW what are those problems regarding the sata problems with the eVGA board?
Eastluna has the P5N32-E for a better price than newegg and zzf so hurry...

kaispeth, even if you get a PCI SATA 3gb controller, there will be a bottleneck because remember PCI speed is 33bit=133mbps

I dont know about mobo but in RAM I would recommend you get at least DDR667 (DDR800 would be better) remember to check latencies before buying...

I hope that the Striker drops its price too, Eastluna has the price on 355 but its coming in january! newegg next availability according to their page is on the 18 (not tomorrow but next monday) and the waits are becoming more and more longer!.

I believe the P5N32-E has the same BIOS (with just some erased features) but still do not attempt to use striker bios on p5n32-e

Heres another quickie. I'll be running Sli, I see some ram is rated for SLi and some is not. or approved.
So lets add that to my last question!! What Sli rated Ram would you get for under $300??? LOL

I believe (99.9%) that the latest Corsair memory released in the last 2 years are SLI certified.

You can check on www.corsair.com and check the model I showed to you.

BTW it has support for EPP so I would say its SLI certified too.

I was checking emails and reading news and the new reply email poped up hehe

BTW Dont worry if you have any problem with it (which I think you wont anyways) you will be able to return it since newegg can be trusted 😀

Weird... went out of stock in 2 mins? They probably had only 1 available... ( Something tells me that when that happens, is either a refurbished one or RMA'ed one)

Anyways thx for the message! will be getting it soon! gosh as soon as I get it I will be kick the sh*t out of it...
