Here's a DIY solution

Wow, the Ivy Bridge i7 3770k ranks #7 while the 3770 still ranks #9 with 10452 in the PassMark Performance Test chart:

For a comparison, our original CPU - AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.6 socket 754 comes in at 401 with a rank of #1078:

We upgraded to the AMD Athlon 3200 2.0, 2 years ago, which comes in at 524 with a rank of #960:

I'm curious of what the % of performance increase is from these compared to the new 3770?

I haven't nor the circles I roll with heard anything about IB-E, in fact we heard that Socket 2011 is dead, it was a haphazard attempt to revive the ol "Extreme" platform, nothing to extreme sadly, and the price was just ludicrous.

Had a friend of mine design a carry along portable WC unit he called the water box which is independant from the chassis, but takes little connection to get up and running. In the box is 4 x 360mm rads, Res and serious pump. Also has a 240mm rad in the chassis.

I wasn't in the market for processors when SB came out so I am unsure if I should be worried or not if the IB will get sold out immediately? On the release of Sandy Bridge, was it sold out? If so over the course of how many days?

I feel that a lot of people are wanting to skip over this generation of processors since they already are using SB, so I am just guessing that there will be plenty of IB stock.

Hey guys, should i wait for Intel Core i5 3570K or just buy the Intel Core i5 2500k?

Ivy bridge processors will not be available till end-may/early-june here in my country.

I won't overclock till 3-4 years.
Yes, i have XFX 9600GT (will buy msi 6850 cyc. edition few months after i buy any of these two processors)
Cooling system - none lol
oh i can wait 😉

Wait... if you're not going to overclock for a few years, wouldn't it be better to not overclock at all and get a cheaper chip, and just get a newer chip in 3-4 years? I mean, I know why you're doing it that way (you want to extend the useful life of the chip), but if you're not going to overclock for the first few years, I find it kind of pointless to get an overclockable chip.

I think it will sell well as the graphics are improved, and overall its slightly more efficient, and the lowered TDP is most welcome from a sustainability perspective ... its a great improvement.

Regarding ripping off the IHS I would think you would have to be an idiot to think your warranty wouldn't be out the door ... so I didn't mention it.

Finally there is NO THGF position on whether you should or should not remove your IHS ... Ry's opinion in that regard is his own ... void your warranty at your own risk ... frankly we don't care ... it isn't our problem.

I don't recommend the method in the video though ... sheer butchery there.

:)

I'm wondering now if I should wait for the z87 chipset since I'm not really satisfied with the z77? I really wanted an all next generation system with no USB 2, PCIe 2 or sata 2 - I wanted all gen 3 especially since it's all backwards compatible. The z87 chipset will probably do just that.

What's the guesstimated time-frame for the next new motherboard chipset? Problem is the z77 may be the last chipset for the 1155 socket? The new z87 might be for the Haswell 1150 socket, which could put it a year away and I don't think I can wait that long.

Intel's 8-series chipsets = Z87 / Shark Bay platform / Lynx Point

as was asked/stated on the forum; compare the same conditions using solder then draw a conclusion.

RE: the z87 chipset from above...

If the z87 chipset is only for Haswell and the 1150 socket then, that means that there are no upgrade options for Ivy Bridge whatsoever. That's disappointing.

What are the chances of a z78 chipset?
